you can change ip (if your modem is connected directly to your computer) by going to:

start->run
type "cmd"
type "ipconfig /release"
then after all done type
"ipconfig /renew"
should get a new ip.

jfl827 12-09-2007 10:51 PM

thanks ivegotinfo for the quick reply. I have tried the ipconfig/release method many times, but the IP is still the same.

I just downloaded AOL 9.0 VR and I do get a new IP every time. But the question is do I have clear the cookies and other stuff in the AOL browser? Do I have to use an AOL email to sign up for a new ebay account? I'd prefer Yahoo or something.

koalawash 12-09-2007 11:36 PM

It doesn't matter whether you're using AOL or not.. you must clear all your cookies each time you're about to log in to eBay or Paypal. The quickest and most effective way to do this that I've found is to download this program called CCleaner. Just run the program and it will delete every type of cookie on your system in a few seconds.

It seems that I get the same IP address each time I log in to AOL. Why is that?

x2ruff4u 12-10-2007 07:15 PM

It means you cant do anything about it

Experience. Had the same ip 2 months, got like 15 accounts baned cause of it t.t DROVE ME NUTS! Dont use aol ip's

Jonas 12-10-2007 07:47 PM

This phrase is almos 20 years old, but: AOL sucks

jfl827 12-16-2007 08:42 PM

You know when you fax in your info to eBay to get reinstated, they say that the documents will be destroyed immediately. Do you guys believe that? Or is that a way to lure you to get your ID on file? I'm a little bit worried because I'm planning to fax ebay a photoshoped document.

Jonas 12-17-2007 09:31 PM

eBay probably keeps them around to blacklist you later after selling them to identity thieves.

I don't know why it seems to be this way for a lot of people here. In my experience using several accounts through AOL, I've NEVER been linked to a previous account.

koalawash 12-19-2007 01:14 AM

Oh and P.S.. I check my IP each time I log in to AOL too. Many times I'm getting the same IP several times in a row as well. But I still use it with several eBay accounts (even different ones being used in the same day) and I have NEVER been linked. It's really starting to make me curious why everyone else seems to have so many problems with this??

randy95966 02-09-2008 07:51 PM

Can Ebay read the properties on the pictures you post?

Can Ebay read the properties on the pictures you post? I have a new account open and just want to be sure. If I open the properties on one of my saved pictures it says who the owner is.

koalawash 02-09-2008 07:56 PM

They could, but I don't know if they make use of this.

Could the system that you use have anything to do with this? Like if you use
XP, Vista or run Mac? Is any of this due to location as mentioned by ebayhatelov? Any thoughts?

koalawash 02-09-2008 08:31 PM

I don't know, GreenBean.. using AOL with broadband, I just assumed this was the case everywhere. But it's probably different with dialup.

Thanks for the info, I'm so glad to find this forum!
My account got suspended because I got scammed by a "friend"
who used my account to sell ⊗⊗⊗⊗ stuff which I was unaware of...
I tried to explain it to eBay and even offered to provide prove that a scammer was using my account.
But they just won't listen!
I made a big mistake by registering new accounts instead of getting reinstated the right way. :(
I don't need to sell on eBay, just need a buyer's account
It saved me a lot to buy text books, ink, etc on ebay :)
I hate ebay but kinda need it at the same time lol

I do a few questions before I start, hope they haven't been asked...

1. Can I use my sister's cell phone number to register? We share the same address though.

2. I have a Mac Laptop and a PC desktop... the moden + router is connected to the PC. By changing the PC's IP, will the Mac get a new IP as well (it picks up the wireless connection sent from the PC router)?

3. I just need a buyer's account at the moment, is it a bad idea to pay by PayPal still? I might need to sell a thing or two in the future, so i guess it's safer never to use my PayPal account with it from the start? Just want to make sure.

4. Can I add a new card (with a different name) to my current credit card and use that instead?

Thanks in advance~

Chris Hanson 02-17-2008 08:00 PM

Hello hooray,

1st off if I read correctly u want a buyers account right? Okay well Ebay doesn't look into buyers account only Sellers account. So in all actuality you can re register on Ebay with your real info. Just switch up your name a little bit and you will be alright. If they ask for a credit cqrd just add a gift card.

hooray 02-17-2008 08:13 PM

Thanks Christ Hanson.
I've tried that before, but got suspended within a week or so...
Probably because I used the same PayPal account to pay
and same name/address and everything...?
If I need to sell things in the future, will it be too late to change the info then?

gitrooman 02-17-2008 09:05 PM

Yup its because you used the same paypal account. When you make a new ebay account, make a new paypal account. For a new paypal account, your gonna need a new giftcard, (i recommend simon.com quick, east and cheap) you can use that same giftcard with the ebay account too. You'll also need a new bank account, checking or savings, it doesnt matter which. After that you should be ok.

Oh ok, can the checking account have my real name? (different from what I'll be registering ebay with)

koalawash 02-17-2008 09:29 PM

Yeah, eBay and Paypal can't see any of the real info on your checking account except for the routing # and account # you give them. So it's no problem.

hooray 02-17-2008 11:42 PM

Thanks, koalawash.

But do you guys think it's a bad idea to get an additional card from my current credit card? Cuz I can just add another name to my card and get a new set of numbers with that.

rond100 02-17-2008 11:54 PM

That really depends on the address attached to the card does eBay have it from a previous account.

Before i used gift cards I would get additional credit cards on my account and change the address and use that address for eBay.

But if the account gets suspended they will charge the card for fees if you don't cancel it.

I best recommend a gift card or 5. You can get a gift card at a drugstore, grocery store or the mall.

A gift card can use any address you wish.
