ISO of OS X for VMware...

I need to do some testing with OS X and don't have a Mac... Anyone know where, or how to get a OS X image for VMware? I prefer advice from someone that is actually doing it...

Yea... I saw there was some professional looking blog posts on the subject with download links that google brought up... but I really didn't want to have to be the one to guinea pig it. Downloading 5GB's of god knows what before exhausting all my options didn't seem like a good idea...

I never ended up having to download any sketchy M1crosoft ISO's... After a lot of searching I ended up finding a Java Script h4ck and used it to pull all the official genuine M1crosoft ISO's off M1crosoft's download page...

I did see something in a blog post that sounded like you could make a ISO of OS X if you had a Mac to pull it off of... But that too might require downloading some 3rd party closed source software. I'd have to read it again.

And there is conflicting information that sounds like OS X might need VMWorkstation 14...

You can't just use a torrent?

ever heard of pirate bay, set search to OS X and look for an iso file.
easy peasy

I finely broke down and decided just to trust a vmdk file from a blog post and YouTube video link...

I used this YouTube vid to walk me though it... You have to edit VMWare and this YouTuber actually posted the direct link to the creators GitHub so I felt it was as solid as it was going to get...

There more easy way to test. Buy remote mac os from macincloud. 25$ for shared plan monthly.

I went with a torrent myself after reading through comments on TPB. Figured you would be a torrent guy, nate. I got Snow Leopard. Going to make a new VM this afternoon after working to see if I can get it installed.

Re: ISO of OS X for VMware...

I'm pretty sure in order to get any Mac OS to work on VMware you have to edit VMware's config to unlock it.. I don't think its as easy as just getting the ISO and loading it... The way I ended up doing it used a vmdk file. I could be wrong tho.. But I know there is no option in VMware for Mac OS when it asks what operating system your trying to install... But by editing the VMware config and unlocking it, it adds Mac OS to the list.

Someone on another Discord told me that VMware ESXi lets you use Mac OS out the box, but WorkStation does not...

I had to do all kinds of steps... (watch the YouTube vid). I did everything but change the Mac OS s/n with Clover that he shows how to do at the end of the vid...

The YouTuber posted the link to the guys GitHub that made the unlocker...
https://github.com/DrDonk/unlocker

That's why I chose to follow his video and use his links in the description of his video... Other people weren't directing you to the original GitHub.. they just offered the download from their own location.

I also cross referenced with this blog post.. https://techsviewer.com/install-maco...mware-windows/https://techsviewer.com/install-maco...mware-windows/

The only problem I came across so far is that the VMware tools they wrote won't allow me to use anything but a bridged connection from the host machine.. When i plug in my USB WiFi adapter it wont show up in Mac OS

Nate, dumb question, did you install the drivers for your Wifi Adapter onto the MacOS?

Nope... Good thought... I'll have to try that... I was thinking Mac OS would see the adapter like Windows does and at least try and do something with it...

And all the google results I looked at only showed how to set up the bridged connection. So I was thinking it had something to do with the VMware tools since you have to install special VMware tools that a 3rd party dev made for Mac OS

Yeah, you might need drivers for that adapter for Mac OSX

Yep, you were right... Loaded the drivers... OSx found the device, but the drivers don't work right with High Sierra 10.13 so I was unable to physically connect to wifi, or see any near by access points.

@phaz0rz

I kept experimenting with installs and you can use a ISO of MacOS... I got it to work... But their are even more steps than when using a vmdk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=5JVk_f2Ip6M

From what I put together you can either download a ISO or vmdk online... Set it up in VMware and plug in or create a Apple ID.. Then it might be possible to download a actual Genuine copy from Apple. But you have to turn it into a ISO yourself... (actually having a MAC might be necessary for this, it don't know yet)

https://tylermade.net/2017/10/05/how...rra-installer/

I also realized last night that the download of Unlocker from GitHub comes with VMware tools in it.."darwin.iso"

But if you use them it will wreak havoc on your display make everything too big with no way to change the settings. (at least that I've found yet) so using VMware tools from the 1st YouTube link seems mandatory at this point.

The Unlocker seems to just be code taken out of VMware ESXi to add into Workstation.
