Want to change your IP address? Don't be discouraged. Try this.

I just wanted to send a quick message to all of those who have a modem and are running a simple Windows XP like me and have been discouraged about changing your IP address. Here is what I did....

At first I had tried unplugging it for 20-60 minutes and nothing happened. I then tried a full day and a half and I still had the same IP. Lastly, I unplugged the modem on a Monday night and NEVER turned on or touched the Internet until Friday afternoon and I had a new IP address. Please keep in mind that my address is Dynamic.

To say the least, I was very discouraged because I could not get a new IP. I called my ISP and they said that they could NOT change it and did not have the capability to do so. I recieved 3 different answers from 3 different Reps.

By reading the STEALTH and taking in some great advice from the members within, I was able to come up with a new IP with a little time and patience. It was that simple! Hope this can be of some help to anyone who is having similar problems that I had.

- Wait, what? They can change it and don't have the capability? I'm confused.
I think you're saying that they did change it. Right? And did you just ask for a Static IP? If so, did it cost you anything? How easy is it to change IPs now? plz let me know- DIAL UP IS KILLING ME!

In my posting I had forgot to add an essential word that has been corrected now. They said theat they could NOT change it and did not have the capability. Of course, that is my ISP, others will be different. The first 2 Reps that I spoke to had to different answers to what my IP address was; one said sticky and the other said static, but when I got to the bottom of things I do have a dynamic address.
I left the modem unplugged from Monday until Friday and the number did change. If it is left unplugged for about 24 hours, it is kind of like floating around until another user or a new user picks it up and then you are left with a new one. Beats dial-up though!
