I remember AOL back when I was a minor in 95 - 97 I used to phish for accounts there, was into the warez scene, etc.

AOL liked to boot people easily like eBay... AOL would ban for cussing or if TOSAdvisor entered even a public room, TOSAdvisor liked to term people for no reason. Also, AOL kept billing past cancellation, which is something eBay really likes to do more than anything else.

Default Creating an account different from your IP info? Will you be banned?

Not sure where this belongs but this looks as good a place as any...

Has anyone ever tried to create an account in a different country before? I think there were at least a couple members who were looking into it last I heard. Since ebay has the new rules about requiring new sellers to have a paypal account to accept payment right off the bat, would this cause problems with having your account based somewhere else? Also, what about your IP information? Would you be very likely to be banned almost immediately with your IP being a totally different country from what you registered the ebay account with? Lastly, would you have to have a card (gift or whichever) based in that country to get away with it? I'm considering it as I think it would help my sales considerably as well as help get around some of ebay's more ludicrous rulings. I suppose I could always dive in, but I thought it best to ask here first before trying.

Any thoughts out there?

So...why does my post belong here in the proxy thread exactly? Can a proxy make the account look like it's in another country? Would you even need to do this if you have a different IP each time you log on regardless of where in the world you tell ebay your address is? I guess what I'm asking is...would a proxy have anything to do with helping this to work or not?

A proxy will not help you . It will only make things worse.

In that case, how would one go about creating an account somewhere else? As long as you don't get into questionable sales tactics and vero goods, will ebay pretty well leave you alone, or will you likely be banned almost immediately (if it lets you at all)?

I'm not catching your meaning. Are you saying that a proxy won't help disguise the location being elsewhere than where you say it is on your registration information? Without the proxy are you sure to be caught and suspended by registering in that manner, or will the system leave you alone until questionable activity occurs? If you play it straight in any other matter, will you be safe? I see a lot of accounts where the location of the actual item is different from the location where the account was created. Just curious how they would get away with that, if it's likely from doing what I'm suggesting, or if they use drop shippers.

When you sell an item you can specify the location of the item, thats why you some location of items on ebay different from where the seller is..

And with the proxies, just leave them alone. It's too risky. ebay hates proxies

CPU, that's helpful information, but it still leaves the main question of whether or not you can register the account wherever you please and not be suspended for it. I understand that you can pick where the item is located, just wondering if that's how they can get away with registering somewhere but actually BEING somewhere else.

For example if a user was in Canada but registered their account in the U.S. Or vice versa. Or say the user was somewhere in the UK and registered a U.S. based account. Or vice versa. Or Japan. Or Korea, South America, Australia, China, Or wherever really. These are just examples.

Would the ebay server kick you out for that, or red flag and monitor you, or would that happen only when your account was reported, called into question due to selling behaviour or the like? And would you REALLY find it being a problem when it came to placing a credit card on file? I suppose you would pretty much HAVE to use a virtual card in that case? Or are these things that Ebay will dismiss/ignore until you start doing and selling things they don't like?

Why would you want to do all that.?? Just register a the account for the city you are in and you wont have no problems..

See, it is not 1 thing you do to get kicked off ebay, it is a combination of things....

Ebay base your account on brownie points..

For a lot of reasons. Reasons of account limitation, reasons of being eligible for certain things, what Modee just said living in another country after registering. Many other personal reasons I'd rather not air out in the open.

Modee, would you be able to successfully do that with a regular card, or would it be necessary to get a virtual Simon (or other) card to avoid being suspended? How long had the OP's account been open/how established was it when she moved?

Smile Hide your IP address program from cnet.com , I love it

Hi guys, I found this program on Cnet.com that can change your IP address as often as you like. I think it might be great for us the "ebay suspended" people to avoid being linked to our old account by our IP address as aspkin said. what do you think aspkin? do you think this program will do the trick?

after I installed it, you can either have a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ IP address world wide ( from France to africa ) or search under only within your country ( which I think might be better so ebay won't be suspecious? )

here is the link to cnet's program. it's free trial and after I used it I think it's awesome so I paid like $20 for it. let me know what you think guys

So out of the handful that have been discussed in this thread and others lately, which IP hiding software would be recommended above all others for international trade? There's AOL, the Proxy Switcher, Hide-My-Ip.com, Hide The Ip, and I'm sure there's more.

AOL is the sure fire way of staying on eBay, stick to ISP proxies. If you just use some sort of proxy software, you probably will get flagged at one point.

Default proxies will get you suspended immediately

I have used proxies a number of times with ebay. I was always suspended immediately. Has happened 5 or 6 times.

Was this to create a UK related account? Was it by choice that you ended up with the UK ip or just an accident? Do you mind sharing the source?

Default Reliable Proxy?

I'm looking for a reliable proxy service that will work on the majority of the internet. Youhide.com and freeproxyserver.net seem to have major limitations. Anyone have a recommendation?

By the way, this isn't just for ebay.

Do any of these work on dial-up? All I can find is wireless.
