Important if Choosing a VPN - Must be SSL
If you use a VPN, VPS, proxies or other IP tunnelling or network sharing device the most important consideration is to ensure that it runs Secure Socket Layer (SSL). This means that your IP address will remain concealed on secure pages. If you're using something that doesn't have SSL you can go to a HTTP site such as whatismyipaddress.com and it will look like you're IP address has changed to your provider's, however when you visit a HTTPS page your REAL IP is contained in the HTTP header. eBay, PayPal, etc. and all secure pages after you login are HTTPS so after you login you're broadcasting you're real IP address and any service that is not SSL is as good as worthless. After you login to any secure site, watch the URL change from HTTP to HTTPS, that is when you'd start broadcasting your real connection.
You need an SSL connection to avoid the server from finding your real IP address on those HTTPS pages and make your provider seem like your only connection. If you use SOCKS5 this is not an issue.
