Ive been studying articles on Ebay/Paypal Anti Fraud Software...(Still trying to figure out the Magic KEY..to the "Abusing".. but Ive come across several articles, thought I'd share a few... (theres many, so Ive cut out excerpts...)


NetProbe
Carnegie Mellon's system, called NetProbe, examines connections between buyers and sellers to look for patterns of artificial feedback. By drawing connections between groups of eBay users, the software can make associations between otherwise anonymous eBay sellers and known criminals,
He said the system works because it is able to scan several layers deep into connections between eBay users. "For example, we are looking at the people who traded with the people who traded with me," Faloutsos said.
Manipulated feedback scores, while a problem for eBay, are not the site's chief source of fraud, she said. Most eBay criminals use hijacked account to commit fraud, allowing them to impersonate legitimate, well-respected eBay members. NetProbe's relationship testing would be powerless to find such fraud, she said.

Under the new rules in these categories, sellers face limits on the number of items they can sell and cannot sell items using short one- or three-day auctions, which are a favorite of scammers who hope to take their money and disappear. EBay also introduced a host of geographical restrictions, like preventing sellers in China and Hong Kong, where piracy is rampant, from putting up listings in those categories at all.
The researchers analyzed about 1 million transactions involving 66,000 EBay users to develop graphs — known in statistical circles as bipartite cores — that identify users interacting with unusual frequency.
The CMU software looks for patterns of users who have repeated transactions with one another, and alerts other users that there is a higher probability of having a fraudulent transaction with them.

No one, it turns out, does Internet auction fraud like the Romanians. Bulgarians specialize in intellectual property theft; Ukraine is a leader in online credit card crime; the Russians have a profitable niche in Internet dating fraud.

But when it comes to online auctions, particularly for big-ticket items such as cars that can yield $5,000 a scam, Romanians own the game. Romanian police estimate that cyber-crime is now a multimillion-dollar national industry, as important to organized criminals here as drug smuggling or human trafficking.
A classic Romanian scam is the "second chance auction." The mark: an EBay user who has narrowly lost an auction. The scammers can see that the user was prepared to spend, say, $145 on a particular item. They will then try to guess the user's e-mail address so that they can make contact off the EBay platform to offer a second chance to buy the item. Users commonly have the same e-mail address as their EBay user name, so the scammers may send out 50 e-mail messages using an EBay user name and the most common domain names such as Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.
