Default Same MAC address - for few acc. Any danger ?

Hi, everyone,
i have a few Stealth acc, all have different IP, usernames, Ebay acc, Paypal details, Windows users and so on...
Everything completely diferent and none of them are linked.
I have not paid attention it is adviced to change computer's mac address...
Will my accounts be linked now ? Is it worth to change them , or i should feel quite safe in terms i am not linked by Ebay...

What I last read and heard, (and yes, the answer is somewhere around in the forum, but granted its hard to find) ebay and paypal can not see your mac address. Yes, there is a technique, but i doubt ebay and paypal implement it or will ever do. Thing is, most mac address are similar with a lot of people. I know my mac address is very similar to a few people i chat with online whilst we were comparing. Any other folks can chip in because i am not 100% sure about it though.

Tell me to shut up if I'm wrong but your IP address relates to your MAC address so if you don't change the MAC address for each account the IP addresses will be the same.

How are you changing your IP addresses if not changing the MAC address?

Shut up - haha, you asked for it!

I don't think it is a problem, going by personal current experience.

I have 2 live accounts all using variations on the same MAC, often the same MAC. But NEVER the same IP.

I now only change my mac address between 2 address, sometimes I dont even need to change it. I have a router that lets you reset it from within the settings. Even if I don't change the MAC and just tell it to reboot/restart it comes back with a new IP. I think living in a big city helps.

I have had these account going for coming up to 2 months or thereabouts and they are still going fine...

They probably do track mac addresses, but we probably just don't know. Hell who knows what ebay checks they are so complicated now. Anyways I asked the same question months ago and I have used the same mac with different ips for some accounts and had no problems. Usually they get suspended for selling to much.

I see, I use an O2 router and the only way I can change the IP address is by telneting into the router and changing the mac address. I have a different mac address for each stealth account I have

Nar mate, all routers have a login, you router will be made by tomson, netgear, d-link or some main manufacture, if you know which one i will tell you how to log in but basically..

Just type your default gateway into your main address bar and you will see a login screen

It's made by Thompson. I don't have a problem logging in to the router but even with the SuperUser account there is nowhere to change your MAC address. The only way you can change the IP address on an O2 router is through telnet.

If you log into the router via it's IP address the interface has O2 written all over it so I suspect it's a custom firmware.

Telneting isn't an issue, once I've logged into it there are only 3 commands to put in which I have in a word document all prepared so it's just a matter of copying and pasting, only takes a tick.

I could hook my netgear router up and use that because that is easy to log in and change the MAC address but my wireless HP printer won't work with it...

No matter what anyone above said, eBay can not track your MAC address at this point. I have worked in the IT industry for many years and it's impossible to do without installing a software or at least applet on your computer, with your permission (you need to accept and agree to it), which eBay does not.

MAC address tracking IS REAL. My understanding is that eBay does not currently have this capability.

But that does NOT MEAN they will not have it tomorrow!

Why take the chance? Using something like SMAC to spoof your MAC addresses is easy.

Is there something inside the seller area you're referring to, because I have it enabled in amazon.com and I barely notice the difference. I believe I have the scripts disabled, which would mean that all the js can't run.

Maybe you're thinking of the times we fired up internet explorer and found we had to 'enable the content' of the site. Those times it's very different and it's like what you say, it works pitifully. But that's more iexplorer overdoing it, unless the noscript isn't doing it's job?

Yeah, OK, but why don't you guys just disable scripts and java? I insist, all I can see are flash videos and flash ads that won't work. Youtube it would cripple, but amazon/ebay?

Sigh. They can NOT track MAC addresses. Please stop spreading rumors. It's technologically impossible with Javascript, Flash and even through TCP packets. The MAC address can only be seen in 2 cases:

1. By the server that connects directly to your machine/router. That would be your internet service provider. Until the connection gets to eBay, it has passed between 20-30 different nodes. Even the 2nd one can't see your MAC address, much less eBay that's 20-30 nodes away.

2. Through a Java applet. eBay doesn't use Java applets and even if they did, you can easily disable them. Many browsers don't have Java applets enabled anyways and again - eBay doesn't use Java applets.

It's impossible to get the MAC address through Javascript or Flash.

@imjustme

I agree with most of what you said, for now they can't track our MAC addresses. I know this for a fact because I've got many stealth accounts on the same computer, different users, different IP, but same MAC and yet I'm going strong

The thing is , anyone can change their mac address so who's to say someone hasn't ever changed it to the same as another computers mac. I don't really think its an issue either.
I think when the stealth guide refers to changing ur mac address it's more to get a new ip.

You know, in IE, there are options like 'disable scripting', or 'disable java applets', but in Opera all there is is an 'Enable Javascript' drop down menu tab. Does disabling javascript disable the possibility of creating java applets, and if not how would you disable java applets in Opera?
