Default AOL proxy - does your WAN IP address change for EBAY purposes? Not necessarily

Was installing some new software and computer re-booted as a result. I went to go log into AOL so I could access my ebay account (I have been doing it this way successfully for eight months now) I go to check my IP in AOL and it comes up the same as my regular DSL.

I've shut down and restarted it like 3 or 4 times and the same results each time. Could it be that AOL has quit using a proxy?

I'm afraid to sign in any other way right now, I have like 70 FBs at 100% and I'm afraid to raise any red flags.

Just tried again and finally got AOL to sign on with the proxy. Anyone have any ideas of why it would take 4 or 5 tries? I used IP Burger and other IP sites and they all gave my regular ISP DSL IP. BTW I was actually logged in because I could compose new email, etc. This just has me a little confused this time

Unknown DogFacedBoy, other users have reported something similar happening to them, but they eventually figured it out over a few tries. AOL has a history of 'sucking'.

whats the problem with not using dial up?
has anyone gotten in trouble using the normal broadband?
seems to me like thousands of ebay users nationwide are using aol and broadband.

Default Using AOL Proxy

I've tried using the AOL browser as a proxy. Everytime before I go on eBay I check my IP address with IPBurger and it shows up as something different. But when I make changes to my eBay account (such as changing the password,) eBay recognizes my original home IP address instead of the proxy one. Am I compromised?

HI:
I use aol all the time..
first-- I clear cookies, using cookie cleaner, then i clean in explorer,
then when aol opens, go to security/options, clear tracks..

Yeah I clear my Firefox private data, run CCleaner, and use Objective to clear my flash cookies. Then I log into AOL 9.1 and check my IP address with IPBurger before I proceed to logging into my eBay/PayPal accounts. Am I doing something wrong or using the wrong AOL browser?

I have broadband and an AOL icon 9.0 already installed on my computer, so I opened new Aol email and signed into AOL as guest. Checked IP, always the same. I think that free AOL service does not work for changing the IPs. I believe I need to sign up for it at 9.95 a month via my cable service. I don't mind signing up if this will guarantee a new IP every time I use it. Does anyone know if that's the case?

I have an aol paid account, after getting the "abusing ebay policy" for using "hidemyip2008" that appears to be the proxy server that got me shut down, i decided to just use the aol browser. The only thing i noted was it was asking me to accept cookies in IE, which i have done but i do delete before and after every visit to ebay. I check my IP and it is different everytime.

I hope this keeps me on ebay for a while longer than 48 hours the last time round.

So does that mean using AOL proxy is a dead end?

Well I was able to change my home IP address using the old "unplug your modem and leave overnight" trick. Now I can finally get back on eBay without having to worry.

Well, as it seems not to be certain, I may just subscribe to AOL broadband for 9.95 a month and see if it works for me or not. If I have to use dial up to initiate new IP, than I have to first sign up for land line, right? I have 2 cell phones, one from work and 1 my own, private. I did just fine without land line for almost 3 years now...

I stick with AOL dial up cause I get the different IP address everytime. Too bad the other way doesn't still change your IP cause dial-up is soo slow. But I go with what is safest for me.

I've personally had bad experiences with AOL, especially broadband.

Okay this is very strange..I just went onto AOL dialup and checked my IP address. Its now giving me my regular IP address, no proxy? I just noticed this today. Yesterday I got a proxy.

Default Modee: is there a way to check?

Modee said: "Seems like it sometimes did not work in the first place. People were checking their IP address with What Is My IP Address? - Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more...
and the like, and thinking they were okay, when sometimes their ISP's WAN IP address was flowing through to EBAY and getting them busted."

So, is there any way for us to get a correct check on our IP, other than asking you what is coming through at your end?

Thanks, Modee

Okay, posting this message via AOL Browser with sign in for an AOL account. It is possible to use the AOL browser without signing in. If you do this you WILL show the same IP address as you IE
