I use AOL dial up for eBay/Paypal internet access.
Then I use Safari & Firefox as a Browser.

I have not been tagged for IP address issues since I took this route... about 2 years now.

AOL dial-up definitely works.

I think aspkin meant to ask if anyone is using AOL Browser or a similar program (AOL9.1, AOL 9.0VR, AOL 10.1 Desktop, etc) using a high speed connection to use eBay. Note that in some of the software they provide you have to be signed in to a free AOL account for it to mask your IP with an AOL IP.

Yes, I mean using AOL Browser with your own broadband connection.

You use AOL's proxy network this way.

I just started using desktop with one account, I am a little worried though. I find it strange that I downloaded desktop for mac and it doesn't mask my ip address. I have it on parallels/windows.

Are you signing into your free AOL account or just using Desktop? Make sure you sign in to the free aol email account.

I think what aspkin's asking.. is has anyone tried the AOL over broadband software?

You don't dialup, you use aol's proxy network to connect to the internet.. technically giving you a new IP.. however Wikipedia had a problem with ghost-editors many years ago and found a way around this. Search for "aol x forwarded for" on google or something to that extent.. should explain it a little better.

Technically ebay could figure out you're the same user, whether they do or not yet is another story.

Default aol proxy (desktop confirmed)

I know some say it works and others say it does not on the board. Well the only way I could think to prove it for myself was to open a new ebay account using desktop. The next day I went through the forgot my ip process where they have to send you an email.

And again I would like to add, YOU HAVE TO SIGN INTO A FREE AOL ACCOUNT or you will not use an AOL proxy!

Thanks for everyone who posted. So we know with definitive proof that eBay reads your x-forwarded-for header to see your true broadband IP Address. As mentioned in the forums several times now, if you're going to use AOL browser you'll need to configure your firewall to block the x-forwarded-for header to block your true IP Address from being sent to eBay. If you can't or don't know how to do that, then do not use AOL Browser! Thanks for everyone who Helped bring this to a conclusion.
