If you reply directly to a notice from eBay that you received a new message, the reply will be sent to the buyer or seller's email address. Directly meaning from your email address you did the reply. That's what this lady did. I hate when buyers do this.

Click on link in EB email using AOL?

ok.. so we all have been using AOL's browser for IP protection. great....

my questions is this: if I click on an EB link (to an specific EB item listed) in an email from PP sent to my gmail address (which is the webmail i use with my new EB seller account).. and then an new AOL web-browser opens to EB, that shows the EB item that I clicked on, and shows me as logged in as the seller ... will that expose my real IP to EB? or is it still cloaked in AOL browser's proxy?

Of course, I am logged into the same EB seller account earlier in AOL browser. I think thats why when the new AOL web browser window opened to dispaly that specific EB item, it also showed me as logged in as the seller. However, I don;t think they can link me to any other account that i have, since I delete "ALL FOOTPRINT" in AOL always after each session, and only log into one account each session, so everything should all match up. Im just concerned about the real IP vs AOL IP problem in viewing and clicking on links in EB and PP emails in gmail.

the problem with gmail is that it does blocking of the images, but does not disable links in emails. I wish there was some way of doing that. if anyone knows of any good ways, please let me know.

Thanks to all forum gurus. You guys have been great help in understanding how EB and PP works.

Some great questions.
I think there is an option in gmail to "display all images" or similar

You are using the AOL browser to access EB...I have an AOL email that is just registered at EB.

What is the procedure for going out into cyberspace with the AOL browser? Do you have to pay for this feature?

Thanks

JackNoMore 08-28-2007 10:27 AM

I wouldn't do it. I believe this is how I had one of my accounts suspended a while back. AOL is good for some things, but I wouldn't use them for direct email contact.

Van Player 08-28-2007 03:04 PM

hell no.. i never use aol for anything else but their web browser, only cuz it shows different ip each time.

so does that mean that we should always respond to questions in ebay my messages only?

O.. and DON"T click on that display images.. especially the ALWAYS DISPLAY IMAGES FROM... cuz there is no way to turn it off again f you go always display. kinda sucks..

Van Player 09-21-2007 02:45 AM

Should EB email and PP email be kept seperate?

Just a thought.. since some people are saying that they have their PP account limited, after their EB account is naru'ed, and that 2 is not linked.. how about using a different email for accepting PP payments, and another for EB communication emails etc? what do you think?

Chris Hanson 09-21-2007 04:19 AM

LINKED!! Buyer will put auction number in the invoice. Wham Bam got you sucka

aspkin 09-21-2007 11:08 AM

Huh? I think I missed something..

DogFacedBoy 09-21-2007 03:25 PM

If we wouldn't use PP for EB who would use it for anything...after everything that we know from this site?

ebaykilla 09-21-2007 04:17 PM

so modee how do you pay your seller fees?

aspkin do you take paypal thru ebay checkout?

spike1 09-24-2007 12:06 AM

the only reason to use paypal is it's easier for the buyers, or so they think. other than for ebay, who would ever need paypal?

x2ruff4u 09-24-2007 12:08 PM

lol good one modee. I guess some of us, me also are still need the pacifier >,< lol

I did that out of sheer accident and ebay eventually will ask you to change emails so they are the same, or they won't let you list.

The only thing I worry about with not using paypal is that sales volume will decline, especially if you're talking about lower end items. Has anyone found this to be true?

JackNoMore 09-24-2007 01:09 PM

You know I was thinking...one thing you could do to help cut down on the Paypal pacifier complainers is to provide a link to one of the many articles out there dispelling the greatness of Paypal in your listings. Or maybe even--for the daring--a direct link to PaypalSucks. Though I'm not sure if ebay would view that as libel or not and either take you down off their site or threaten legal action for it. But it's not providing a link to your own website and it would be kind of funny if it works. Heck, you might even take out one of their classified ads!

Has anyone tried it, and was the listing removed?

JackNoMore 09-24-2007 04:56 PM

Modee, forgive me for not reading every little single post. I don't live here ya know. :)
With everything I have to keep track of, I think I happen to do pretty well.

Although if memory serves, I think you did mention that in passing, but never specified if it was in the listing or by email.

So...brace yourself here's another question...which is it?

Chris Hanson 09-28-2007 07:02 PM

Weird?? Email

Something weird is going on. I inserted my email in my listings but when I or the buyers click on it it goes to and shows a totally different email address in outlook????????????????????

Chris Hanson 09-28-2007 07:11 PM

never mind I know now.. haha
and their email was in it and change the email name to my email name but the html code links back to the original email address of the auction I copied....

Geez I *ucked up big time. hope

I Know It's Been Said Before, But Don't Open Email From Suspended Accounts

It Is Bad! There is stuff in all ebay email that tracks and puts cookies on your computer. Be careful!!

How To Answer Ebay Email And Stay Online

I think this is an important point to be reminded of as we can get complacent.

I really think that is why I had a bunch of names suspended. Every week in November I started to loose accounts every week. I think what happened was I Opened an email from a suspended account, then I read email from some other accounts and all the subsequent accounts from which I read emails were suspended. The last time I lost accounts was 10 days ago.

Now I have a new anal retentive process to answer email and I have stayed online.

Now I don't even open email from the regular accounts because I am convinced ALL EMAIL from ebay contains stuff.

So what do I do? Download all of the email into outlook express,(disconnect my internet connection) DO NOT HAVE THE MESSAGE PREVIEW PANE ACTIVE., read them by mousing over the email subject and right-clicking properties and "view message source" Then the html code window appears and you can read it that way without "opening it" Then delete it.

After I'm done, JUST IN CASE, I Clean the computer with ccleaner and system mechanic, reboot. Reconnect, purge/delete. I compose brand new emails for my replies.

Yes, this adds hours every week onto the email, but it's better than getting knocked off.

I felt it was safe to post this in front of the Ebay spies since nothing exists that can bypass THAT function.

koalawash 12-10-2007 12:47 PM

LOL why did you edit the whole post like that?

ebayisanecessaryevil 12-10-2007 04:24 PM

because I got cold feet and i didn't want people mad at me for posting too much info in public

the rest of it was the post I repeated in the member's section.

koalawash 12-10-2007 05:41 PM

Oh, I see now.. took me a while to notice those were 2 different posts. :o

aspkin 12-10-2007 08:37 PM

Well, I've always noticed there is a connection between eBay emails and linking of accounts. Some users use GMAIL for just this reason.

The way eBay tracks you is by embedding one pixel tracking images. Gmail disables all images automatically when you're reading. So reading eBay emails from Gmail won't link your accounts while you're online.

Others use the Outlook method doing what you do. That work as well.

Also reading emails at libraries, cyber cafes, etc. Any other computer then yours works as well.

Simply don't read suspended eBay emails on a computer linked to your eBay account and you should be okay.

Gmail is the best option though.

Can PP link if I delete email addresses?

I set a new ebay account but I only have one Paypal account, a verified business account, ive had for 3+ years. I thought I could list w/o PP (using Auctiva) but EB is requiring a PP account to list. It said I have no EB accounts linked to PP but if I add my new email and delete all my old emails from my PP profile will I still get linked?

imjustme 01-01-2008 02:21 PM

Most likely.

thelizardking 01-01-2008 02:53 PM

what if I entered the email address but used Paypal invoice and not ebay checkout? I guess what im asking is...do they link the accounts after you list or after the item is paid for?
Also I tried putting in a email I have that is not associated with PP and it came back "email is invalid"

OMB 01-01-2008 03:16 PM

Actually, ebay will link the accounts once you list. Once they see the person's name on the paypal address is the same as the name on the paypal address of a previously banned account, that's how u get linked. Once you list, they have all the info they need. Most likely nothing will happen to your paypal account for now...but you'll lose the new ebay account u made within 2 days.

Suspended after my email was answered

Add this to your "Never Do This" list.
After you get a limitation/suspension, do no not write into trust and safety. I was limited, unable to list. Wrote into trust and safety. Was reinstated a few days later, then today about a week after i sent my email in, i have been suspended. It is funny how the suspension comes RIGHT after he sent out his reply to my message, basically saying sometimes we limit accounts, because we can.
So I wonder how much longer the account would be active if I hadent sent that email in.

aspkin 01-18-2008 06:41 PM

Yeah, that's up there on things not to do. :(

ebay100 01-20-2008 09:02 PM

I just recieved..

A email on a suspended account from a year ago saying things like it was reinstated?

Wierd.. I did not respond.

EB

thelizardking 01-20-2008 09:06 PM

yeah never email them or open their emails. I think its funny they will send you emails months after your account is suspended. Baiting you to open it so they can track you.

Email Headers For A Gmail Message

does anyone know how i can retrieve the complete header for an email from my gmail account? i need to send it to ebay to report a threatening buyer.

aspkin 03-31-2008 09:03 AM

1. Log in to your Gmail account.
2. Open the message you'd like to view headers for.
3. Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top-right of the message pane.
4. Select Show original.

Throb-n-Rod 04-23-2008 12:27 AM

Now your worried about web beacons lol When I was saying they are a problem you said they had been ruled out. Anyways Ill add my 2-cents Gmail works as well as AOL 9.0 SE as long as you dont click the link at the top of the page that says "show Immages & Enable Links"

Kleidis 06-19-2008 06:40 PM

IP from email ?

Hi,
I've just received an email from paypal to a gmail account,
and replied to it without thinking, then realised I replied
without changing my IP.
I'm thinking the email header just lists the IP of the smtp
server, and not that of the client.
Does anyone know otherwise ?

Kleidis 06-20-2008 07:58 PM

But if I read the forum rather than ask questions, I miss out on personal replies
from you lovely people.. :p

aspkin 06-21-2008 02:34 AM

Lol, Kleidis you'll be fine.

imjustme 06-21-2008 06:16 AM

You CAN actually get the sender IP from an email, even through Google Mail. But I doubt PayPal will check each and every IP from every email they receive.

HairyOldEbayer 06-21-2008 06:51 AM

I did a test today using Gmail. Using a program called eprompter (multiple account email checker) and also by sending a reply from a logged in Gmail account itself. Both email headers show the from google IP rather than my "bad, bad dog" IP.

.

fxbear 06-22-2008 06:32 AM

could you please tell me how or point me where it is described?
The only method I am aware of is the beacon one (small pic in the html email) - but this feature (showing pics in email) is turn off by default in gmail.

Thanks very much for your answer!
