I read your post on January which is my problem now.
2 days ago i opened E in through online and added it to Ets y after 10-11 hours.
Which another day my sales nearly stopped and same evening i got message from etsy that mismatch irs...
so i tried to edit there my ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name its accepted for now but i think tomorrow i will get same message. Can i know how did you solve it ?

I m in same situation now and just dont know when etsy will accept ein.
How long it took to accept and until accprt what info you add there ? My sales stopped.

I could not get any updates so just closed acct .tried my own details,tried stealth details,wait for 4 weeks not any result.Just account went down day by day so i decided close shop and Closed Ein.

I am going through the same thing. I actually had an EIN number from before. I just spoke with an IRS agent as well and they said if I use the EIN number on ETSY, they (ETSY) will verify the number with the IRS and it will pop up my real legal name. So The EIN thing does not work unless you commit fraud by applying for an EIN number with a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ ss and ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name, which would be a big mistake considering you can get 5 years in prison for mail and/or wire fraud.
I think you can only do etsy for up to 10 or 12K per year and put shop on vacation. You can't sell over $20k without committing fraud. Bottom Line!

Imagine going through all of the procedures to change your last name just to get possibly shut down 5 minutes after opening your account.

This is 100% false.

Most likely by "real legal name" the agent meant the name of your LLC.

The agent I spoke to only told me about the option of sending a form and did not offer any kind of rush service. I would have gladly paid that

I'm not trying to fraud the IRS. I created the EIN with my real info so that i can pay taxes on it, however i was not comfortable putting real info on etsy Taxpayer ID page because i didnt want to get linked to my old shut down account.

First i made a single person EIN, then on etsy used the real EIN but put stealth details. This gave me the original etsy error saying tax ID & name didnt match and why i started asking here.

Just a thought...did you register your LLC with the state? If you didnt, your EIN wont mean anything because the LLC isnt a complete or legitimate entity.

Meaning, it will be registered as A company, but it wont be in the databases because it is not registered completely with your State's corporation commission, basically it is not a complete entity..kind of like you have a birth certificate, but no social security number or ID...your alive and kicking, but youre off the grid and cant even pay taxes.

For instance, I have an LLC in Virginia, and I have an EIN for this LLC. However, I cannot use this company to conduct commerce because I have not gone through ALL of the steps to register and close the loop as far as the state of VA is concerned.

This includes:

-Employer Identification Number (easy)
-Articles of Organization submitted
-Articles of Incorporation submitted
-Registered business entity (LLC first step)
-Operating Agreement
-Registered Agent
-Verified Business Address/Phone Number
-Finally, file with your state's SCC.

This is all (almost?) the paperwork you need to get in order to register the business entity successfully with the IRS/State Corporation Commission

Keep in mind it will take a little time for the info to be verifiable as far as the IRS or Etsy is concerned. Once you submitted everything and the state congratulates you on your new company, you will be off to the races.

If you go to Incfile I believe they do all of the above for you for a couple hundred dollars, and I myself use 1postal for the business address ($10/month, addresses in all 50 states!)

P.S - I have only ever put legitimate tax information into an Etsy account that I wanted to have any longevity. I know no other way.

Why not make a corporation and do it yourself?
