Have there been situations where sales platforms wrote down any details from the ID on their own (such as Do c number)? Can they just ask you to enter it only?

Reading the guidance again it states "The required information must be reported by 31 January following the end of the reporting period. This means that reports for the first Reportable Period of 1 January to 31 December 2024 will be due by 31 January 2025 for UK Platforms. Although there is a grace period of another year to provide information on Sellers who were already registered at the time the Platform Operator became a Reporting Platform Operator, this is to recognise that extra time might be needed to go back and collect information on those Sellers. The guidance contains examples on the date Platform Operators need to report by if there is any uncertainty."

Would you take this as if you currently have an account on a marketplace the info won't be passed on in January 2025, or am I taking the wrong way?

I think they want the info from the selling platforms by 31st Jan 2025 but is cutting them a break to get info on stragglers. Probably why the verifications of older accounts as well as new ones are going on at present to comply with all the new regulations world wide.

What verifications is that? I haven't had anything on any of my accounts.

What's your opinion on that situation by the way? Seems like there could be situations but...it's dangerous if found out since it's privacy breach no?

What would TIN stand for and why are they asking for it? Is there anything more in the game now that I am not aware of instead of providing VAT number once you get close to 85K a year?

TIN number is a tax number in many European countries - in order for them to send the report, they must first obtain it from you and verify it (whether the algorithm is consistent)
you don't provide any tax numbers when opening stores in the UK?

I have opened my store many years ago and I believe they didn't ask for anything such as that.

Don't know if anything has changed so far while opening an account.

However, what happened to me near the end of last year is this:

Totally confusing.

Things always change every year at the least. Every platform has to keep up

you have been asked to provide your VAT ID
the first reminder is probably at 75% of the threshold, for the UK it is probably 85k
Unfortunately for you, you earned close to the threshold in 2023 (about 75%) and have already been asked to provide your VAT ID.

For example, if you did not reach the threshold for the first reminder, your threshold will be reset in January. I'm 99% sure of this.
You probably need to open a LTD and get a VAT ID - otherwise you will be suspended.

This is option number one, option number two is to close the current store and open a new one - the threshold does not transfer to the new account - 100%.

Jackies,

Reading the official forum I was under impresion they will send reminder on 50, 75 and then the suspension will follow at 90% .

I received first reminder at arround 50% and afterwards noting before this crap when I was at arround 70%.

Anyway, are you suggesting opening the new store now BEFORE final suapension, or I can do it AFTER suspension?

Do you believe suspension is inevitable?

Using the same exact details? On how many accounts you have tested this statement?

it is likely etsy go the way of amazon where they take a free interpretation of tax rules to reduce their own risks so that their own tax rules become stricter than those of HMRC

rules change, policies change, how they do things change, how they think change, THINGS EVOLVE and we have to keep up or be 1 step ahead to be successful

0n 16th January Ebay did an update about the new Digital Sales Reporting Legislation to HMRC. This is part of the article:

Required UK digital sales reporting should only affect newly registered accounts in 2024 and all accounts in 2025 who pass either of the below calendar year sales thresholds on eBay:

Total sales on eBay is equal to or more than €2,000 (approximately £1,740) after deducting fees and commissions or taxes
30 or more sales transactions are completed on eBay (cancelled transactions are not included in the calculation)

Starting from January 2025, the prior calendar year's information will be reported to HMRC each January and a copy of the reported data will be provided to sellers. We recommend that you consult HMRC or a tax advisor if you have any questions about your tax obligations.

Does that then mean that only accounts registered this year will have their info passed onto HMRC, and then for the rest of us from next year? Bit confused....
