Yep agreed, it's all I have ever used there and I have, shall we say, rather extensive experience with it.

Go back over the different categories on ETSY.

Look at your own hobbies & likes.

See what you find.

Should be something suitable.

You would be surprised at all of the shops which I personally wouldn't find a need to patronize but have many many sales. Not just clothing. Not by a long long shot.

Re: How Does Etsy Work?

hey guys

just to update

i am doing really well on etsy, been there for around 6 weeks and doing about double the amount of sales on etsy in comparison to ebay.

so im very glad i joined etsy!

just to confirm i signed up with legit info so i could use direct checkout, which 80% of my buyers use.

i have it linked to an old stealth paypal though as alot of people use pp.

onwards and upwards guys.

i can honestly see myself using etsy exclusively in the near future as having so much success there.

thanks all.

THIS. If you have not experienced firsthand you might not believe how the image Et.sy presents of the "sweet little old ladies who knit hats" or "moms making jewelry" can turn into fire-breathing fanged monsters when their turf is threatened...but it happens. OH how it happens.

Highly suggest you do. Do not trust that all will be well because it CAN go south. Not to try to be a Debbie Downer but it can. Prepare in advance!

Re: How Does Etsy Work?

Hello everyone. I was banned from EB and have been thinking about heading over to ET as an alternative. Mostly deal with vintage items. Anyone have any insight if that's a good marketplace for that, or better for crafts/handmade items? While I'm asking, is there any way to see what actually sells like you can on EB? Any way to find out which of the 3 main categories of vintage, supplies, or handmade is best over there and/or which ones seem to draw the revenge-competitors a previous poster mentioned? Thanks and best of luck to all of you.

I have been selling on ET its slow but building I think at present US is the market for them but Oeople are willing to pay a little more. I have also been amazed that I am selling to the US as well and they love my stuff.
I am suprised at some of the stores whicjph IMHO sell crap

Re: How Does Etsy Work?

Etsy works for both handcrafts and vintage (I dabble in the latter category) - it's very niche-y so competition can be fierce and buyers, exclusive

Re: How Does Etsy Work?

For users using etsy for a long time how would you compare the traffic from eBay to Etsy? I know everything depends on what you sell. Generally speaking is it enough traffic to see decent sales?

How about repeat customers? I imagine thats huge in etsy as its more about the "community". Never used etsy...very interested in getting my feet wet.

I plan on making custom t-shirts/sweatshirts/pants/hats.. (no copyright logos all me and my mind).. I'm pretty creative so its more so just expanding on that. I'm not looking to make a fortune but curious if this a good platform for such a item?
