Glad there isnt a fish flu yet, I like seafood over all else. Crab, shrimp, flounder, catfish, trout, pretty much anything from the water. :bounce:

Mad cow: Beef
Avian flu: Birds
Swine: Pork

Probably gonna be cat/dog flu next

Where I am, no Swine Flue yet, thank God! But even if this string dyes soon, experts worry that it can come back in fall/winter and much more potent. Last I heard there would be a vaccine made by July, but they were not sure...:noidea:

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organization declared the first flu pandemic of the 21st century on Thursday, urging countries to shore up defenses against the virus which is "not stoppable" but has proved mainly mild so far.

The United Nations agency raised its pandemic flu alert to phase 6 on a six-point scale, indicating the first influenza pandemic since 1968 is under way.

"This is a very important and challenging day for all of us. It is important because we will be raising our pandemic alert level to level 6," WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan told reporters on a teleconference.

"At this time, the global assessment is that we are seeing a moderate pandemic."

Atleast its a "moderate pandemic." Fatalities seem to be around 1 percent. :violin:

I think Ive had it or am having it right now, been coughing and hocking like a smoker for 3 weeks...

Werfella 07-24-2009 09:30 PM

did you hear they are restricting people who might be supseptable to the swine flu from going on hajj its crazy i thought the thing dropped already. i guess better safe than sorry.

yaw1800 07-24-2009 11:42 PM

i saw on the news that one of the harry potter kids had it

oompaloompa 07-25-2009 01:53 AM

Its like normal flu, some people have been unluckier but usually they are asthmatics etc

yes, Rupert from Harry Potter was seperated from the others at the premiere,

as for hajj, suppose its a bit different method than stampedement to death...

Hey Ooopa, I hope you are well by now. I changed one time my medicine and was also coughing like had lung desease, but it was all because of the new medicine I was taking...

oompaloompa 07-26-2009 03:07 AM

I will tell you the problem, the drs dont confirm if youve had it or not, they are not offering tests for milder cases. So if you are not at deaths door then you dont know if you are in for something worse later on..

Lyda 07-26-2009 08:27 PM

Really? I guess is different here in old USA.....

TMiles 07-27-2009 06:23 AM

We just had a major league pitcher for the Texas Rangers confirmed with the strain. I am wondering how this is going to play out this fall when flu season hits.

Glad you are feeling better, oomp!

Werfella 08-01-2009 10:48 PM

i heard on the news that they finaly found a vacine for it and that people 65 and up are some how immune to it.... glad ur better oomp

oompaloompa 08-09-2009 04:54 PM

yes in some countries there was a flu like this a few decades ago, in Uk there was and the oldies have some immunity to it, yes better now, just dont know if I actually had it, doctor relative of mine said they are not doing the swabs when people are ill because too much processing to do, so i think the figures are way higher than registered, but moderate symptoms are just staying home and getting over it..

Lyda 08-09-2009 06:43 PM

Look at it this way, if you had it- you are over it by now and surely have immune bodies in yourself . So you are OK if something more serious strikes this fall...I want to get get vacine, but seems they won't be ready.
In the meantime, take your vitamins , live and eat healthy... I guess this must help a little....

Vicvelcro 08-09-2009 11:25 PM

I boil my tinfoil hat once a week, whether it needs it or not. I *know* I'm safe...
