The day I saw the spat between Jeff Bezos and Trump I knew this day will come.


My thoughts on this are the following: Major e-commerce platforms will start taking some new measures to shield themselves from lawsuits and governmental regulations. These I suppose will range from suspending accounts to setting up special units with LE.

So if you're selling cakes, I would suggest you wind down your activity for a while in order to protect your accounts. I heard a lot of gossip that LE has been purchasing stuff online as part of an investigation which will eventually turn into a report to be put on Trump's desk by Nov/2019.


It's sadly funny how Trump is coming after his political opponents. Amazon & eBay have done everything on their part to protect rights owners (who have the ability to shut down accounts with clicks). So I don't know what else Trump wants in this regard!!



What are your thoughts on this?



P.S: Do you think this is US-exclusive, or will this reach Europe as well?

I am not talking about the economic situation... I know the economy is doing good under Trump. By ventures I mean for example the attempt to stop immigrants & drugs from crossing the border.


To be honest I don't want Trump doing anything with Amazon or eBay. I don't want those two companies to start banning accounts based on a feedback that a product was ⊗⊗⊗⊗ just to be in compliance with a new legislation.


Imagine a Vero program on steroid, that would be disastrous for all sellers regardless if they sell ⊗⊗⊗⊗ or not. That will open the gates more for abuse IMHO.

I hope it happens. It will specifically target places like Ioffer and DHgate is my best guess.

I read the exact words he said on Wednesday. I like what he is doing. Safety items such as airbags was a huge problem recently. Low quality children toys, dangerous foods, all sorts of synthetic drugs etc... all very dangerous and expensive to people in the USA and around the rest of the world.

after the 210 days is up, we will see what the plan is. It is not going to be stronger customs, it is not going to be crackdown on USA retailers and net sellers. It will be more about where the items come from and how the money leaves the USA is my guess.

We will know if anything comes from it is about 207 days :)

It is actually a good thing. Less competition. Higher quality gains buyer trust and larger profit margins on the same goods. Still waiting for Ebay to step up their regulation game. They're miles behind Amazon.

Well, to say that the wild west of counterfeiting must be dealt with and for good is a wild statement IMHO.

The only viable way to stop counterfeiting is to bring US manufacturing back to the US. As long as US factories are operating from within China, their Chinese partners will always have insight on trade secrets and thus will pass it to Chinese counterfeiters. Another step would be to strengthen US customs and border enforcement agencies.


Punishing eBay or Amazon for something they can't control might alleviate symptoms, but it won't cure the disease at all. Both companies have already granted unlimited rights to rights owners in terms of taking listings down. Policing a platform like Amazon is impossible to do due to the massive number of sellers and their listings.

I despise people that sell ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and counterfeit goods.

Plenty of money to be made just flipping legitimate items. Go and find a product. Add value to it. The formula could not be any easier than that, seriously.

Who said Trump said anything about ebay or amazon on Wednesday?

He asked two agencies to investigate what could be done about intellectual property rights being violated in the USA via counterfeit.

The leap that he is attacking anyone is solely in ones imagination. The idea that ebay and amazon is going to change over a 210 day investigation into protection intellectual property rights owners is somewhat silly. How are they going to change policy based on a guess of what might come from an investigation into anything and everything?

2. Trump trying to end China/US Postal Treaty
3. Now tightening IP countermeasures. How many supermarkets can you go to that sell phakes? And how much money do ebay/Amazon still make vs spend dealing with phakes.

Trump openly shows he doesnt like Jeff on twitter lol. And all of those hurt ecommerce platforms via their sellers. He's certainly directly or indirectly trying to make profits smaller.

Although I agree with you, I think despise is a harsh word. Let people do what they want, they are grown ups and can make their own decisions, and they are fully aware of the risks.

When I first joined this forum it seemed I was one of the few that was NOT selling cakes, lol

F*kes hurt a lot of people up and down the chain. As I said before by adding value to a genuine product you can always re-sell for a profit so there is no need to sell copies of anything ...

its not that hard to stop f4kes.......only allow big box stores to list such items for sale on ebay, and amazon.............

any third party sellers that want to sell any item that has a brand name, fvck you. lol.

that will completely eradicate all counterfeit sales right there.

Or frugal. I buy quality generic when it is the same as a name brand.... It really depends on what it is though.

Quality generic is different than phake original.

People who buy phake originals are usually cheap ass, broke phucks who want it for social status.

Quality generic buyers are usually frugal.

I am sure eBay, Amazon & Alibaba...etc have a different opinion. These companies make billions off the sale of counterfeits on their platform.


Rights holders are pissed because they lose some market share to counterfeiters, but their problem ist not with Amazon or eBay, it is with a factory that is operated overseas. So if they have enough balls, they should go after these factories.


Counterfeiting is as old as prostitution. The moment you accept it, life becomes easier. It won't go away as long as people could make money off it :surrender:

Trump (or any President) doesn't make the rules.

What you read in the media, and what actually happens are two different things.

Until further notice, it's business as usual until there are real changes that impact these marketplaces.

Funny you say that, i bought some Nike Are Max from ebay phakes and they lasted longer and were more comfortable than my real Nike Air's.

Reproductions themselves are not the issue.

It's something that is purported to be some brand or trademarked item that isn't. Like made in exact imitation of something valuable or important with the intention to deceive or defraud.

There are laws already on the books to counter counterfeit items. They get into the country simply because it's impossible to closely examine EVERY package coming in. US Customs (CBP) does not have those resources. They also don't always know the difference to spot a foo-foo item as opposed to a real one.

Some countries do a better job at controlling who/what crosses their borders. Examples are Singapore, Australia, Canada, UAE. If you have traveled into one of these places, you know how strict they can be.

The USA is the largest importer in the world. They also take in the largest about of foo-foo items. They are not just being sold on online marketplaces like eBay, but also Brick & Morter shops, big box stores, etc. They can enter the supply chain in ways you never imagined.

Protecting the brand should be the responsibility of the brand itself. eBay and Amazon have done everything in their capacity to fight ⊗⊗⊗⊗. They even gave rights owners the ability to shut down accounts permanently.

Right now there are only a handful of players in the e-commerce scene, but that may change in the future. Imagine holding dozens of online marketplaces liable for the possible sale of counterfeit items on their platform.

I am thinking about starting my own brand... Now I demand that every online store makes sure that no counterfeit items of my brand are sold on their platform. If this doesn't sound insane, I don't know what does!!


Anyway, nothing will stop the counterfeiting industry as long as people could make money off it, drugs and prostitution are the prime example that efforts to end such things are destined to fail.

What does this article have to do with counterfeiting? Is that a hint about drugs? I don't think a bust ,be it small or big, is a sign that the war on drugs was/is effective, right? I mean do you know how easy is it to acquire drugs?! That's easier than buying a hamburger :boink:
