I hope you guys never have to go thru what we went thru-
Got up at 4:30 am Tuesday.
Heard so much about this category 1 hurricane ,I thought it was no big deal,we have seen worse.
Well, the wind was very strong,I have a wrought iron chair outside and it was whacked, well it was old,but it is very heavy!
It rained so much the earthworms emerge from the soil ,I have internet and electricity ,then in a few hours,I lost both.
But I still have water, natural gas and landline phone.
Electricity came back, but not internet,I have Comcaste which is cable, but makes no difference, their utility poles were damaged and they have to order parts.it took them 3 days to fix the problem.
I consider myself lucky as millions of Houstonians are still without power and the temperature is above 90 degrees.
But the last few days were awful,I have no access to internet,I do not have TV and my tracfone does not work(Verizon),I turned on my transistor radio and the reception is not bad,but all they talked about is Biden .
This is the start of hurricane season,I am thinking of getting a small generator just for internet ,what do you guys think?
Funny we always have natural gas?
We have a receiving pond behind us and it is full, some of my neighbors backyard fence collapsed.
How can a category 1 hurricane do so much damage?

some of the gas stations in the city ran out of gas.
Went grocery shopping, our local supermarket lost electricity for 8 hours, they dumped all the dairy products like milk, creamer, yogurt, icecream, and frozen dinner.

thanks,I just signed up with the local phone company, due to competition, they have lowered price of landline phone and DSL internet for $60 plus /month.
These days we need 2 phones and 2 internet service providers, the landline is grandma but it works .
As for electricty, the only solution is your own generator.

NO,I am still researching,I recall last time we cant find anyone to install one ,you can buy one but who is going to install it?
After this hurricane,I think many household and businesses will be looking into one,Houston has no power for 3 days in 95 degree temperature

There are still a few hundred thousand households with no power in Houston, some of them are attacking the workers who come to install their power/
Center Point Energy is the company and it is getting very bad rap.
Some are sleeping in their cars, hospitals are having problem as they have no power,it is a mess !
Stores like Kroger and WAlmart can afford to eat the loss when they have to trash their grocery items but not local retail shops .
Hurricane season goes from June to November, more hurricanes will come, some will be category 3 and higher .
Candles,burners,flash lights,canned goods,dry goods,water,can opener,transistor radio,hard boiled eggs,cooked pasta,rice,bread,muffins,cake,crackers

We are not as badly hit as Houston,we are outside Houston,we did not have electricity for 3 days, not 3 weeks ?some of my neighbors back fence collapsed but most are replaced with new ones.MY insurance co Statefarm has declared this disaster as national so turned all the claims to Llyod which insures the insurers.
I think most of Houston neighborhoods have electricity back now,at one time they were attacking the workers who come to fix the outage !
More hurricanes are expected ,they start in Africa when the currants are too warm and hurricanes are formed and move toward the Carribean(Cuba,Jamaica,Haiti ) ,then into Gulf of Mexico, either we and /or Mexico get hit.
Many Years ago our gas company did offer a deal ,a discount to have a generator installed by a local company,I think a small one would cost $10K using natural gas?
Some said a smaller portable Honda generator is good enough to power a TV set, household appliances, and PC/Laptop

There are decent prices on solar-powered generators as well to consider
