Question Windows has detected an ip address conflict... help?

Windows has detected an ip address conflict:

another computer on this network has the same ip address as this computer. contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue. more details are available in the windows system event log.

anybody help with this issue? i was on a new user account and that popped up.

You must have been running both simultaneously - there are actually two IP addresses. The external IP that you use to connect to the internet - this is the on that sites can see and the one you change to stealth. Then there's the internal IP - this is what your computer uses to connect to your ISP and cannot be changed otherwise your internet connection won't work for you. To have had the same internal IP address pop up twice you must have been trying to use the same device to make a connection twice whether aware of it or not.

I get this message on my laptop if its open and on when I manually change the MAC address & therefore IP adress on my PC. I havent been too concerned about it, and it hasnt caused me and problems so far. But I'm not real sure what it means.

Its a mac address problem, you must have been messing about with smac..
