Is the quality in education really that far off?

from personal experience in college.....private is much more hands on, more student to teacher interaction, much lower student to teacher ratio, teachers care much more, the focus is much higher for both students and teachers, and the list goes on and on. although there are some exclusions, private gives you a much higher chance to succeed, but the price tag goes with it

the way it is in UK is its often about the area the public is in, eg it has a good catchment area has better pupils and families and less problems, and viceversa....people pay way over the odds for houses in the better areas, so they do not have to pay for the education, and the effect is that the worse areas sink lower and lower.....its all about the family.

It Truly depends on the School District,,In Some areas Public Schools are TERRIBLE,,others they are OUTSTANDING,,,It all Depends on how wisely the Local Goverment Spends the Publics Money

What makes a school outstanding is supportive INVOLVED parents. Parenting is about 90% of the problem in the US. I am a teacher and work overtime as do most I work with. I am in it for the kids. If you aren't, stay away from the profession! I am in CA and our district is being pushed very hard to improve, which we have done. Anything is possible, but like I said, kids learn from their parents!

Another issue you might think about.

If you are just wanting private school to avoid the bad eggs and gang type activities , then some places its there too.

Welfare in many places are allowing you to put your kids in private schools for free with others are paying tons in tuition. Not sure what the specifics are but say a special on it about a year ago . CNN or something like that.

Nomatter what school. Im a young guy and I just finished school like 3 years ago its the same in a private or public school. What really matters is the kid being supported by there parents to learn and MOTIVATION IS THE KEY! The kid needs to have some kind of motivation to do something in life and have money to do what they want.

If your son/daughter or you are out going and like to socialize... and you choose private school, make sure it is a big private school with a lot of kids going to it.

My son used to go to DeMatha Catholic and my daughter at Mater School but then because of my husband running off with my money, I can't afford to send him there which makes my relatives smirk and sarcastically say that being in public schools are sub-standard and that my children will get nowhere. All talk, put-downs and no help. Thanks for the replies!

Just to let you know, there are no standards for private schools. They can teach whatever, however they want. There is no guarantee your child will get the "great" education you are paying for. I work my a** off and parents want their kids in my class. Granted, I work at one of the top 5 school in my district (out of 55 schools) in CA. There are public schools I would stay away from. If you can afford private schools, you probably have the income to be at a wealthy school. Private schools are just a "social" time for parents. Just a thought...
