What do you plan on doing on said laptop?

The best place in the world to ask about what laptop to get is this website forum.

Nice thank you. It will be my main 'desktop'. Minor web design, photoshop (very minor) and basically just everyday use. Have my current one for 8 years :), it's still going strong but basically has no battery life and I would like to get going on an ssd drive. Don't see the use to upgrade mine.

Samsung series 9 -- check them out

We need a lot more info from you. Tell us your budget, what you need the laptop for, and any special requirements such as being lightweight and so on.

yotano211 12-04-2012 05:11 AM

What is your budget and what are you expecting from your laptop, and what kind of warranty are you looking at 1-3 years.

Thanks for all the responses. I would say no more than 600-700 unless I find something magical. Lightweight would be nice that's why I've been looking at ultrabooks

Buy a Dell Inspiron if you wanna look cool among your friends.

BiN4RY 12-04-2012 07:29 PM

Dell computers are pretty overpriced, would not recommend them for individual purchases.

Why not? Put windows it on, you have arguably the best trackpad on any laptop

BiN4RY 12-05-2012 12:04 PM

I'm not a fan of Apple but any computer from any Macbook lines are really nice laptops. They often pack some very decent hardware and battery life in a very thin and light case that often topples what the competitor can offer for similar lines. Macbooks have really good electronic and physical build quality too, but the biggest downside is the price.

Like what the above mentioned, if you don't like os x, just install Windows

I was completely against Apple until about a year and a half ago. My GF got a Macbook Pro for law school and to be honest I hated it at first. But, the more I used it the more I loved it. All we have in the house now are Apple products. iMac, 2 macbook pro's, each have an iPad and iPhone and and a Apple TV. I will never buy another Windows machine again. I work in IT and all we have are Windows machines at work so I know the in's and out's of both and I would choose Mac all day any day.

If I were you, I'd buy a used Macbook Pro or even a Macbook Pro WITHOUT the retina display because you can get it way cheaper (13" for under a grand) and for what you'd be using it for you wouldn't even notice a difference.

You can run boot camp which allows you the option of either booting into OSX or Windows. Normally when I use something and it works, I like to stick with it...but in this case, I couldn't be happier with making the switch.

Yes, and Macbook Air and Macbook Pro Retina already uses proprietary SSDs right out the box.

Packattack12 12-06-2012 01:22 PM

You'll also notice a huge speed increase is you go with the SSD
