Gamefreak 12-04-2012 01:54 AM

What do you plan on doing on said laptop?

yotano211 12-04-2012 02:05 AM

The best place in the world to ask about what laptop to get is this website forum.

Nice thank you. It will be my main 'desktop'. Minor web design, photoshop (very minor) and basically just everyday use. Have my current one for 8 years :), it's still going strong but basically has no battery life and I would like to get going on an ssd drive. Don't see the use to upgrade mine.

Samsung series 9 -- check them out

BiN4RY 12-04-2012 03:29 AM

We need a lot more info from you. Tell us your budget, what you need the laptop for, and any special requirements such as being lightweight and so on.

yotano211 12-04-2012 05:11 AM

What is your budget and what are you expecting from your laptop, and what kind of warranty are you looking at 1-3 years.

Thanks for all the responses. I would say no more than 600-700 unless I find something magical. Lightweight would be nice that's why I've been looking at ultrabooks

mercurial333 12-04-2012 04:20 PM

Buy a Dell Inspiron if you wanna look cool among your friends.

BiN4RY 12-04-2012 07:29 PM

Dell computers are pretty overpriced, would not recommend them for individual purchases.

slim jim 12-05-2012 12:01 AM

Why not? Put windows it on, you have arguably the best trackpad on any laptop

BiN4RY 12-05-2012 12:04 PM

I'm not a fan of Apple but any computer from any Macbook lines are really nice laptops. They often pack some very decent hardware and battery life in a very thin and light case that often topples what the competitor can offer for similar lines. Macbooks have really good electronic and physical build quality too, but the biggest downside is the price.

Like what the above mentioned, if you don't like os x, just install Windows

I was completely against Apple until about a year and a half ago. My GF got a Macbook Pro for law school and to be honest I hated it at first. But, the more I used it the more I loved it. All we have in the house now are Apple products. iMac, 2 macbook pro's, each have an iPad and iPhone and and a Apple TV. I will never buy another Windows machine again. I work in IT and all we have are Windows machines at work so I know the in's and out's of both and I would choose Mac all day any day.

If I were you, I'd buy a used Macbook Pro or even a Macbook Pro WITHOUT the retina display because you can get it way cheaper (13" for under a grand) and for what you'd be using it for you wouldn't even notice a difference.

You can run boot camp which allows you the option of either booting into OSX or Windows. Normally when I use something and it works, I like to stick with it...but in this case, I couldn't be happier with making the switch.

Yes, and Macbook Air and Macbook Pro Retina already uses proprietary SSDs right out the box.

Packattack12 12-06-2012 01:22 PM

You'll also notice a huge speed increase is you go with the SSD

slim jim 12-12-2012 06:53 PM

I always buy SONY! I have one 1GB ram video card, 17 inch, 8GB ram, 500gb hard drive, windows 7, i5 processor duo! Blu ray! Full HD!

And after new years I am buying another one from states. 1TB, 8GB ram, the biggest 17 inch they got with all the upgrades! I get a newer laptop every 2 yrs! Buy something with lots of RAM! Cause every 6 months technology online and java upgrades require the best systems almost to run smoothly! Plus I can't wait to get my newer laptop by sony paid with PP 2GB ram graphic card! Either that or Alien laptop with 16GB who knows!

HAHAHA, graphics with 2gb of ram in a Sony, Sony are known to use subpar graphics cards or underclock their GPUs.

Memory in graphics cards mean nothing when your graphics card doesn't have the horse power to push all of those polygons on the screen.

My laptop with a 7970m and 2gb of ram will run faster than most desktops with 4gb ram on the graphics card.

Yeah the new one with windows 8 has 2GB ram graphics! "AMD Radeon™ HD 7650M (2GB) dedicated graphics"

The one I have has 1GB ram, and I always leave all my programs open and window browsers from 4 different kinds and let everything run and play the game smoothly without any problems! I had it for 2 years. And on top of it have Voip when playing with friends online. And I only got a i5 processor with 8gb ram on it. Runs good!

what kind of laptop u got?

yotano211 12-16-2012 11:23 PM

My gaming laptop is a sager 8150 that I upgraded the graphics card myself some months ago. I keep on upgrading the gpu until I cant anymore, usually every year. I buy last generation laptops that can I can upgrade the gpu myself. I save over 50% from current models and still run current game at max settings.

My ebay selling laptop, I can careless about the equipment it has. Just need a slow cpu and a SSD and I am set.

That HD 7650M is from last generation just renamed.

yotano211 - 15 inches. Eh not bad I guess. I still enjoy my sony!

3dfuzion - VERY NICE 12GB RAM! I bet it runs smooth. VERY NICE SYSTEM for the price! You using outlook by any chances?

I was looking at Alienware last night for $3500 I can get a very nice system and 32GB of ram! I am thinking about getting it to have outlook run smooth with 20 emails on it or so! Plus why not! :)

Speeder33 12-17-2012 06:57 AM

While alienwares look nice I think its overkill to pay 3500 for a computer

I always buy asus and lenovo....seem to have the best build

Just bought my first samsung laptop, very unimpressed, in fact its the worst laptop i've ever owned

lol not bad, my 15inch screen is rated one of the best in any laptop and comes in matte form, not glossy. I love it.

Why send that much on overpriced Alienware upgrades when you can buy it stock and upgrade the memory yourself for fraction of the cost. Upgrading memory is the easiest thing to do.

I need 17 inches! I always have 2 browsers open, on each side. And surf the web and so on. It's cool!

I didn't know about upgrading it myself! Thank you so much! :)

I didn't care about the price cause of the products I sell and the percentage I made, is a killing lol so why not!

Its not really about the size of the laptop screen, more also with the screen resolution.

It might be a killing now but you should always save money on every purchase you make. Rich people stay rich by buying items cheaper and negotiating things or by doing things themselves.
