I have an A4 at the moment, only really use it in the winter though. Reason being that I have a great train station at the end of the road, and driving should be avoided whenever possible in Birmingham. Too many nutters about

Vovlo from the early 2000's. Lots of electrical problems. Lots of time on YouTube trying to figure out how to fix stuff. I do love the information tech age. Even though I don have a smart phone or any of that stuff. I am technology wise stuck in about 2005 or 06 but able to get by.

Being able to look up video's on how to replace brake pads, rotors. Change the oil etc. Had helped me save a good amount of money. And actually given me confidence I can do some of the more simple Auto maintenance. Was able to replace the actuator in two doors that the lock wouldn't go up or down on anymore.

Bought the car with 70k on it now closing in on 165k. I really don't care about new cars and all that anymore. I like my car even if it can be a pain in the behind. Having learned how to do the majority of the work on it etc. I really want to see that car hit 200k plus.

Even though I wax my car twice a year from sitting outside in the weather the paint is beginning to peel. The interior is isn't the greatest. But I do take pride in my car. Looking forward to keeping this sucker running for quite a few more years. Although it has had it quirks it has been good to me. Like my 4 megapixel camera from 2003 that I have probably take 50,000 pictures with and hasn't quit on me. I have a hard time giving up on things that have been so good to me.

Drove a new Suburban last week and it is smooth as silk.

Thinking of buying it.

Loaded to the max with everything including usb ports!

Awesome head turning white with silver, sunroof and all the bells and whistles a vehicle can have.


Hubby has a 60's Shelby Mustang he has had since HS covered up in the garage. We take for an occasional stroll. Amazing car with the best body style on any car I can think of.

He had a 68 Camaro and sold it because the money was offered was too crazy to turn down for it. After that one guy had his collection of cars auctioned off here in Florida that was shown on tv the prices went out the roof.

I've noticed that USB ports are showing up EVERYWHERE! I recently had a couple of outlets changed in my house and the electrician asked if I wanted to trade one regular plug for USB ports! I didn't even know that option existed.

As for my REAL car? It is just a 2007 Lincoln Town car. I LIKE larger cars, I've never been a fan of compacts and sub-compacts. I bought it in 2010 and I keep it nice. Nothing terribly fancy, it won't impress anyone, but I am WELL past the point in my life where I am trying to use a car to make myself look good.

Other family cars are a Toyota Camry and Ford Taurus (both more than 5 years old). Cars last longer these days than they did back in the 1970's and 1980's. My view is, if it is reliable, why junk it? Sure, if I won some ridiculously obscene lottery prize (like over $100,000,000) I MIGHT buy a Rolls-Royce or something.

My business IS successful, but it supports 12 people, 3 cats and 2 dogs. Having good reserves is a necessity and I always like having extra money available should an investment opportunity (or even just a new gadget that I like) become available. Not that I spend all that much on new gadgets.

One of my favorite recent purchases was a Gbox Midnight MX2. It is like a media center PC, runs XBMC like a pro and cost me $100. Too many times in my younger days I would buy some expensive gadget (in the $500 - $1,500 range) only to either be totally disappointed with it, or to never use it.

And when I DO have extra money, I usually donate to the Humane Society. I'd rather use what I have to help save furry little lives than support some factory using what is essentially slave labor to produce junk that is destined to end up in a landfill within 5 years.

When I was younger, I thought it was important to have designer clothes, the latest gadgets and what you younger folks call "bling". Now that I am older, I realize that all of that stuff is meaningless. Yes, it is NICE to have nice things and money DOES help to get you over some of the bumps on the road of life, but it is also true that money will NOT buy you happiness.

I consider myself lucky to have what we have and have worked extremely hard to get it but like you were are smart with our money and dont waste it on things we dont need.

My kids get spoiled yes, but for me I dont need bling and all those fancy things to impress others. Many only buy things to impress others only to find out they cannot afford it in the first place.

Of all people you would know this from your background in this area. People go way to far and do not stay within their own means.

Kids now want those 400 Jordon shoes in every color and my DH tells me he would be lucky when he was a kid to make enough money cutting grass to buy a pair of converse all stars. Now they want several pairs in every color.

My 15 year makes her allowance and then flips it 2-3 time over by buying and selling gadgets she knows kids would die for. She does well and know the value of a dollar where as most kids want to burn a hole real quick.

Just had a friend who bought a pair of Air Jordons for just shy of £1000. Just one of those things I will never understand. That sort of money can buy you a very well crafted watch, which I would bet would last a lot longer.

Here I am at 6:25am at my friends house, one of the alarm(s) rings to some commercial on the radio about having "swag" to buy some new clothes are they advertising. Blasting people with that kind of ads is why lots of people want to have new and shiny things. But in the process they go broke.

Only reason I bought a Prius is for the hatch back design and gas mileage. I never liked fast or big cars, in fact this car is the largest car I have had, I dont think I will go any larger unless it gets better gas mileage. My sister tells my why I didnt get the Chevy Volt. I would like one but its not a hatch back form. There really isnt any room for packages or large boxes.

I had the money available and needed a better designed car so I was able to buy one. I didnt go broke in the process.

I'm so happy to hear this! It sounds like she will do well in life. It is always more difficult to MAKE money than it is to spend it. Knowing that and having the knowledge to make the money will go a long way for her.

So many kids, like you mentioned, dream of gym shoes. I was SHOCKED by one of the above posts - I thought those Michael Jordan Nikes were like $300 or so. But $1,500 for sneakers is just ridiculous. I mean, if they would bestow upon you the same abilities that Jordan has, then they would be a bargain. But they won't.

And my kid researches the best deals in town to save money. She is 15 and already knows the value of a dollar and knows she needs to get the best and most for her money. ( or my money !! )

Awesome kid. Smart and willing to learn.

Sells the crap out of things on ebay at 15. Her savings account grows every month yet still buys what she wants and or needs other then what we buy for her and continues to save at the same time.

Teaching her about money early on has paid off.

It is my job to supply her with what she needs but she unlike most kids will want something extra and demands to pay for it with her own money. Very unselfish.

I have a Mazda RX8 GT and a Lexus ISF. Thinking about getting a Hummer h2, h3, or Land Rover Range Rover next. Within the next 5 years I will get my dream car: a Bugatti Veyron
