Re: So what programs does everyone use for their business records?
My accountant does my taxes and keeps everything in order, but if I didn't keep proper records, separate finances between my businesses and do the groundwork, he would charge me a FORTUNE!
For that I just use Quicken QuickBooks. There is no need to make everything complicated. Not EVERYTHING needs it's own line item. As long as you have accurate records as to the cost of your goods and the income, all is well. For an easy example, lets' say you sell an item for $1 that costs 50 cents and you sold $20,000 of them. It would be enough for recordkeeping to record that as $20,000 in sales with a $10,000 cost of merchandise sold. Of course, you also have to track the other expenses related to that, like $2,000 for postage, $1,700 in eBay fees, etc. But there is no need to generate 20,000 lines of transactions spelling it all out in detail. That is why you keep the underlying records from eBay and PayPal, just in case it becomes necessary, which it almost never does.
