Re: Buying a Standing Work Desk (Automatic)
+1 for laptops. I would be afraid to have my desk raise (while 6 monitors are attached to it) with the click of a button
Not like laptops have to be powerful in a technical aspect. I currently am using:
Toshiba Satellite C855:
*3rd gen i3
*15" screen
*Was using 4GB but decided to upgrade to 8GB (so I can have 3+ VM's run at once)
*Was 240GB SSD, but was close to full (with adobe, solidworks, MS office, 6-7 VM's, ISO's, etc) so upgraded to a 512GB SSD. But I did clear my HDD and I am only using 167GB atm.
*6 cell battery, soon to be 12.
*Broke the DVD drive (so it does not consume power = longer battery).
Cost was $100 for the laptop, and $80 for 240GB SSD. Other parts I feel is unnecessary with most users.
Rather then having an i7, an i3 (in most cases) will use less power and can truly get the job done in "on-the-go" environments. Like I said, I can use photoshop and solidworks 2013 without a problem, even with the VMs running. Use a desktop if you need power.. rather then wasting it on a laptop that will overheat. I was getting 4-5 hours of use, but the battery is about shot, so I am only getting 3 hours of use. When I pop in the 12 cell, I should get around 10 usable hours of life! |
