eBay Classifieds

Has anybody used the classifieds section of eBay? It costs more, but does it cut out the junk traffic you get on Craigslist? And is the traffic still worth it?

rsot 08-09-2010 12:06 PM

Not much clue here - doesn't get you feedback and Paypal doesn't cover buyer protection...so...you can imagine.

MadSam 08-09-2010 12:11 PM

Well maybe not for certain items, but for driving to another sales page or site. Are eBay classifieds still **** hot or not?

rsot 08-09-2010 12:25 PM

Hopefully other people can give better input then.

I see alot of classified add pages that people use to drive traffic to there own personal sites. Now if it realy increases the traffic that much I realy have no clue.:thumb:

MadSam 08-09-2010 03:41 PM

Has anybody who's used it got anything to contribute?

IDK 08-09-2010 05:31 PM

There is simply NOT enough info on eBay classifieds, ANYWHERE!

MadSam 08-09-2010 07:08 PM

Exactly! Has ANYONE used it???

Any classified posters?

Good question. I too would like to hear any input from anyone that's used it.

MadSam 08-12-2010 11:11 AM

So in all these ebayers nobody has used the classifieds?

SaiJin 08-12-2010 01:17 PM

Is it easily viewable though?
I'd think that most people just go to the dot com, and search, rather than look into the classifieds?

pod 08-12-2010 01:19 PM

Well, isn't the classified site just Kijiji? Now owned by eBay

I think its a different crowd more looking for local stuff. Well Kijiji is like that in Canada anyway. I use it lots to sell locally and it works very well.

SaiJin 08-12-2010 01:22 PM

Oh. I thought it's inside eB com itself.

So it's like a craigs list

pod 08-12-2010 01:26 PM

Yes, it used to be a pretty version of CL for listing classifieds. eBay would have no part of that, so they bought them. If you look at Kijiji in Canada, you can see how it was. They dont show it as owned by eBay here, not sure why.

Kijiji Toronto (GTA) Classifieds: Free Local Classified Ads for Toronto (GTA), Ontario

SaiJin 08-12-2010 01:31 PM

Hmmm.... So eBay owns them now? US and CA kijiji?
And the classifieds is basically Kijiji, correct?

If so, it doesn't seem to be well marketed . Or I've just been living in a cave

Well, that's why eBay bought it. They don't really want you to use it I think, so they don't push it. Here, ads are 100% free. Not so sure on the US end...

I assume they are owned by eBay here as well, but I dont know

SaiJin 08-12-2010 01:47 PM

plenty of users though? I'd like to sell my smartphone and I don't want to use my eB to do so since it's several hundred $.

pod 08-12-2010 01:49 PM

Its awesome for smartphones. Here anyway. I've sold lots of blackberries. Get good high prices. Cash. No shipping. And they sell fast. I would never sell a smartphone on eBay

Now I cant speak for where you are though.

SaiJin 08-12-2010 01:53 PM

Ok, I'll look into it. Thanks for the info

MadSam 08-13-2010 02:48 PM

Research shows typical ebay classified can get 900 views. Works out cheaper than adwords but is it any more or less targeted?

pod 08-13-2010 02:57 PM

wow 900? How its targeted is a really good question. Hell, I think I will post some ads this weekend and see how well they workout. If they let me. Being Canadian they may force me to use Canadian site.

MadSam 08-13-2010 06:20 PM

Yes please do post us your results.

MadSam 08-14-2010 10:41 AM

Thread has been moved here. Please do post how you get on with eBay Classifieds.

Thanks

pod 08-14-2010 11:04 AM

I was just taking a look and it seems to be local area only. You cant list nationwide or in other cities.

MadSam 08-14-2010 11:08 AM

Sure you can list nationwide.

pod 08-14-2010 11:15 AM

I was just going off the help pages. And those are always so awesome and full of info...

I posted an ad in California and will see if it stays up and gets any traffic

pod 08-14-2010 11:30 AM

I had a link to my site in the ad. 5 minutes later:

We have moved your ad from original category: For sale > to the more appropriate category: Services > Retail & merchandise

But they didn't take it down.

MadSam 08-14-2010 11:47 AM

They didn't say they were going to take it down, they said they were going to move it. Let us know how the traffic goes.

pod 08-14-2010 11:51 AM

Yes I know it was just moved. I was just adding the info that a link automatically moved it.

It has a view counter so that will be great to see traffic

MadSam 08-14-2010 11:55 AM

Did you do the $10 or the $50 listing? Is it up for 30 days?

pod 08-14-2010 12:06 PM

I dint pay anything. Just a free ad. In all fairness I spent 3 minutes looking at the system so my knowledge on it can be covered on the back of a stamp :)

All I had to do was enter an email address and zipcode. No info on me at all. I will look into system deeper. But I just wanted to throw something on the system to see how it plays out.

But my ad is nowhere to be found now. I didn't get an email that it was removed, but its not on there anymore. It was still there when they moved it, but now nothing

It does say it may be a few hours to show, so it may be that too. I posted another item as well and will see how it plays out.

MadSam 08-14-2010 12:14 PM

I think the results I mentioned was for the paid ads, but you lose nothing if it's free.

pod 08-14-2010 12:18 PM

oh for sure. I will just play around with system awhile before I risk wasting a credit card and info. Going in blind is going to have issues for sure. But all I will waste right now is an IP and email.

But my thinking is if I can get some traffic with a freebie, setting up a stealth classified account may have merits.

MadSam 08-14-2010 12:50 PM

Listen to us, wasting an IP, email, credit card, etc. Remember when we used to browse in ignorance?

pod 08-14-2010 01:02 PM

Ya my ads are disappearing within minutes. No email or reasons so hard to determine what their issue is or what rule I'm breaking. If they could at least email and say "you did this" it would help.

I will have to try later when I have time to look at system better

* Removing any links seems to keep them up [so far]

But I would have been surprised if you were allowed to post links anyway. They say you can for more info and pictures. But seems to be a gray area for pointing to site

MadSam 08-14-2010 02:59 PM

Eh, I knew the free ads was too good to be true. The paid ones will allow you to post links and get better exposure. For example, you can make them appear on eBay front page.

pod 08-14-2010 03:04 PM

Well, depending on traffic it may be worth it. How much are the paid ones?

I mean, if I sell a $500 item off my site that's a good chunk of ebay seller fee off the grid!

MadSam 08-14-2010 03:08 PM

They start at $10. The front page exposure fancy ads go up to $39. It may be a lot up front but bottom line if it gets 900 views then it's cheaper than adwords.

pod 08-14-2010 03:11 PM

Do they focus the attention with keywords? Or is it just random?

How long does it show?

[I could find this all out myself, but it would mean logging off and changing IP and I cant do that right now]

If its focused its a steal compared to ad words.

MadSam 08-14-2010 03:20 PM

30 days, but when the 30 days nears you just back in and pay for another 30 days just like relisting an auction, you don't have to create it again from scratch. It is targeted and you pay for front page exposure, I'm not sure I guess it's based on keywords and user's search history.
