unlike mine that has id 98 or something like that
it makes sense to me
2: ya but those are static website
1: what do u mean i dont understand
2: in database driven website we need to fetch data from database
so it is based on ID
1: ok but this guy tells me it is easy to do
2: see in static website there is unique page for each of your product
if possible can you ask him how to do URL rewrite in asp..if possible can u ask him this"

Yes it can be done in ASP as well, but in a different way not mod rewrite.

It has to do with ISS ... I'm not sure the exact way to do it with ASP, I just know it can be done. I had an ASP site once and what a pain it was .. PHP is so much better.

I had another look at your site.

Alexa found you and you now have an Alexa rank. No biggie though, like 4 million something.

I don't have any experience with ASP, I am just now moving from using static/Iframes to PHP. However since you only have 60 or products, I think a mod rewrite via the .htaccess file would be the easiest way to fix the url problem. ( it would only take 120+ lines of code and you would not need any other site modifications from there)

URL Rewriting Guide - Apache HTTP Server

- That assumes you are hosted on an apache server.

Your site designer should be able to whip it out in an hour or so.

and make sure you add the canonical rewrite so you do not get hit with duplicate content issues

I included what you need to force all pages to --www.consolemodz.com--

# And for a site running on port 80
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.consolemodz\.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://www.consolemodz.com/$1 [L,R]

Hope that helps,

Cheers!

If he's on apache then sure it can be done.. but on a windows server nope. :(

Usually ASP runs on windows.

Yeah you are right about ezilon, they moved to a more directory style on the European side. The link is bad. There are some meta search engines where that technique will still work, though it is black hat and you need a bunch of legit links before you should try using that technique.

On pingomatic, it worked okay for me, but it does get spammed bad by the bots.

Hi Cynic

Awsome Thread. I have a month old website. I have been averaging about 50 hits a day. The website is Ultimate Furnace Install Guide , if you want to have a look

Heres a thought I just had. I am going to implement most of your suggestions for a few key words on my site.

Then I will document everything i do and repost here how it goes with the site

This is my webmaster tools queries that are represented by each search. I will be trying to rank higher for the following phrases (I think)
#1 - furnace
#2 - heater
#3 - furnace manuals

Impressions
The top 20 queries in which your site appeared, and the percentage of the top 20 queries represented by each search.
Traffic
The top 20 queries from which users reached your site, and the percentage of the top 20 queries represented by each click.
Top search queries
# % Query Position
1 11% the furnace book 12
2 9% ultimate furnace 1
3 7% connecting plenum to furnace 8
4 7% furnace manual 24
5 5% furnace installation instructions 7
6 5% furnace installer 8
7 3% "www furnacebook com" for $9.97 2
8 3% ultimate iii furnace 2
9 3% hot water furnace installation instructions 3
10 3% how to install a furnace book 4
11 3% furnacebook 6
12 3% furnance intallation guide 7
13 3% home furnace gas heater installation guide 7
14 3% installing your own furnace 7
15 3% furnace installation guide 9
16 3% furnace installation manual 9
17 3% furnace installation manuals 11
18 3% furnace replacement guide 11
19 3% how to install propane book 13
20 3% furnace manuals 50

Of course I am a total knobb at this -- But I will give it a go and check back with the results next week or so.

Any help, of course would be greatly appreciated

agatto2

You should do some research to see how much traffic your target keywords get. You want the keywords that get the most searches but have the least competition. This is also important if are going to buy traffic via adwords.

use this free tool
Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool -- it will give you an idea of the search volume for you words and the competition.

Papjohns

Don't sweat the url thing too badly, the thing you should be concentrating the most on right now is getting links.

I would recommend signing up for del.icio.us , digg, mixx etc and then bookmarking a few of your pages there and maybe writing a linkbait article on your biggest selling product and then submit that to the social sites too.

BTW I hate windows servers, especially those run out of China and India. The webhosts there run on bootleg windows software that is extremely easy to hack because they can't get the security updates for their bootleg software. Never host in China or India unless they have linux servers running Apache. Because the Apache security updates are given for free.

mixx.com -- puts nofollow on profile homepage link
plime.com -- I register and I can't do anything, not even contact plime. It all says I must be "member level 2" and they send me no email and nothing in their help or FAQ or anything findable on google explains it.
jeqq.com -- site is dead, server won't respond, been trying for maybe 6 hours.
linkatopia.com -- links don't show up with javascript off (so they're no good for search engines) and they put nofollow on them
webshots.com -- It fools the uploader into thinking their links get links both by making straight out urls into links and HTML a hrefs into links, load this in a second browser with javscript off and cookies blocked and you'll suddenly see it doesn't make the links anymore and translates the HTML a href into plain text.
twemes.com -- This does not work for new accounts. You have to let the account sit for months before it works. I can sometimes get 1 in 10 for a new account to show up and never in a new category and never with a url link.

Jonas,
Thanks for the updates on those sites. It's been a while since I have used them and all the social media sites are fighting against the spammers. Some are moving to the rel=nofollow to cut down on it. I have been swamped with Christmas business so I have not had the time to get up on some new sites and tricks, but I will after Christmas. Also, I am reading that Googlebot can now read a limited amount of JS.

Jonas, Do you Know of any sites that give free good do follow links? I

agatto,

On the webshots thing. You must upload a photo first then in the comment box put ---<a href="yoursite.com">Link text to your site</a>---

When I did this, I then looked at the source code and the html link was good. They have a special <li class="owner-message"> ---</li>and the links in that were good. They may have changed it though. The links I got from my photos that I uploaded and commented on a few months ago, are still good though.

Something else. I like to do a search for "viagra" every now and then because that is one of the most competitive $$$$$ search terms on the net. Things that work to make a page rank for that phrase are guaranteed to KILL for everything else.

I found this page ranking #4 for Viagra #3 for "Buy Viagra" in Google. The ranking lasted for about a week. ( The ranking did not last because Google hand edits the results on some terms regularly.)

The page
HUGEST_DISCOUNTS | Answerbag.com

It is a profile page for the answerbag. They were using the page as a proxy to drive traffic to their money sites. They must have bought a cheap xrumer clone and let it fly. Bingo, a couple days later you have a page ranking near the top for one of the most competitive on the net. (at least until the next Google hand edit)

here is the link profile for that answerbag proxy page
link:http://www.answerbag.com/profile/?id=256880 -site:answerbag.com - Yahoo! Search Results

This should give you all some ideas. especially if downloaded that free comment kahuna software.

Oh, I was playing around and here is an answerbag profile page I created.

The_Cynic | Answerbag.com

The links are good and if anyone wants, I will give the code to beat their rel=nofollow tagging.

Answerbag is PR 6

I just copied the code from the spammers.I had to track back through the source code on the page to an <?include page for the profile.

here it is

<a style="font-size:24px" href="http://portlandposterpole.com">See Some Great Concert Posters<br /><br />

<img src="http://portlandposterpole.com/Logo/halfe.jpg" /></a>

That works and will give you a good link.

but if you just put you url in the profile box likethey say to, you will get a rel=nofollow tag on your link.

Okay, so I have a question!

I have been following all of these great tips!!!!

First question, I haven't yet been accepted to DMOZ, and its been 2 or so weeks since I submitted. Should I submit again? I know it says not to, so how long should I wait?

Also, how long should it take for a brand new site, after doing most of the things you have been listing here, for Google to start counting the links? I have noticed that when I type my URL, fridaynightfashions.com into Google, it comes up with all (or most of the links) that I have been creating, on webshots, scrnshots, twemes, etc. Does this mean that Google is counting the links? Because it doesn't seem to have helped my page rank at all, it's still 0. It is because my site is new? Also, when I go to backlinkwatch.com, my backlink number is only 8, and it picks of none of the backlink's that I have created using this thread.

Whats the deal??

Thanks again for all of this GREAT information, it is TRULY TRULY appreciated =)

Go to your google account. Click on Analytics. If you don't have that, sign up for it. Once you're in Analytics, you can set the search/index speed of the google spider, the robot that indexes sites. Set it to high. You will get indexed faster.

As for DMOZ, I have no idea, my site was submitted 6 months ago and is still not in DMOZ.

As for page rank, you need to SEO your site for search terms you are trying to rank for. For example, for "skirts", you should have a few sentences which talk about skirts on your home page. Also put it in the title, the browser title, like this forum uses eBay Suspension & Paypal Limited. When someone searches for suspended by ebay etc, this forum is usually number 1.

As far as DMOZ goes, I have submitted applications to them about 30 times over the last 5 years and I have NEVER once heard back from them. DMOZ listings can be valuable but getting on as a dmoz editor is impossible.

In addition to Google analytics, you definitely NEED a google WEBMASTER TOOLS account. Webmaster tools will show you exactly all the sites that link to you and which pages, plus a bunch of other useful stuff.

You definitely Need a Google webmaster tools account.

Been a while since I posted here. I found 2 other do follows.

1. Virb.com -- put a link in the about me section, You have to use the <a href=""></a> But it's a good link.

2. Jimdo.com A free website/blog platform. I have Got to say this is by far the best and easiest website/blog builder. Very easy and intuitive, easier than wordpress by far.
Concert Posters - concert posters

On another thread a guy was talking giving Godaddy $5 a month for thier crappy website tonight. Ughh! This is about 1000% better and it's free.

If find some time I will go back through the link sources and see which are still good, and then consolidate the list in a new post.

Cheers!

See this google search:

buy viagra site:edu - Google Search

Notice all the parasite hosting of .edu domains from people directing it to site selling viagra? I'd like to know how they do that, but unfortunately I suspect they do illegal hacking so unless there's a legal way to do this (e.g. .edu site give free web hosting), then it's not a viable option.
