| | | | | The_Cynic | 06-06-2008 02:18 PM | Sites that will give you free good links (dofollow) There is only so much you can get from on-page seo, if you want to rank, you must have links. Since Google put out the rel=nofollow it is getting tougher to find good sites where you can inject a link.
The purpose of this thread for us to help each other find sites that offer good links.
I will start with 3 sites.
PR7 Webshots - Photo Sharing, Free Wallpaper and Free Screensavers This is a free photo sharing site, load a pic and then put in a comment with your link. Comments from the picture owner are allowed good links. Other comments are rel=noFollow. Note: flickr. et al, have rel=nofollow and links from the comments will get your account closed
PR 4 twemes.com This is a site that works with twitter, twitter links are rel=nofollow, but if you add a #example to your tweet and a --http://www.example.com--, that tweet will show up on twemes with a good do follow link. search posts on twemes by #example and just submit the page where your link shows
PR 6 Quantcast - Open Internet Ratings Service
--- Go here and input the url you want in the box and click, the results page will give a good do follow link, copy the url and submit it to the Search engines, see previous post on Search Submission URLs
-- note this technique, "Input stuffing" can be used on a ton of high PR sites, it's black hat though and if done too much it can result in a penalty. But if you inject a few here there you are okay.
You should know that links are the MOST important aspect of SEO, I have pages on my site with a few good external links, outranking wikipedia pages on the same keyword. Good links are the key to ranking.
My advice avoid big link schemes like textlinkads, php link schemes, etc.. and reciprocal links (although a few relevant reciprocal links are okay) Google is wise to those tricks and using them could get you banned.
Find your own link dumps.
Please share a site two, to help out the community here. |
| The_Cynic | 06-06-2008 02:26 PM | If you are listing on other auction sites, your listings pages on these sites can also be a good link source. (although it against TOS, so what?) Some of the free sites will keep your listing up for 6 months and they usually have decent PR (page rank) Welcome To PlunderHere.com ~ Online Auction MarketPlace & Free eStores!
ioffer, ebid, etc.. all good links, - except ecrater which does not allow html
Also keep Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com in mind. |
| aspkin | 06-07-2008 01:33 PM | One of the best backlinks you can get - DMOZ |
| 2eXclusiive | 06-07-2008 08:41 PM | thanks for the great info. keep it coming
=D |
| The_Cynic | 06-07-2008 11:43 PM | Other overlooked sources links of links are foreign search engines, they are usually very high PR
for example this site PR 7, gives links, but they are no good.
However there are a bunch of other foreign and meta search engines that give good links.
Example search your url + your keywords, on the results page you will find a link with your page title (keyword stuffed of course) and the anchor text.
= Golden high PR site outbound link, a few of those and you will own the serps.
Search : aspkin.com + ebay suspension aspkin forums ebay suspension - t-online.de Suche
to see if the links from any source are good
1st check the robots.txt file http://suche.t-online.de/robots.txt
if it says disallow the folder your link is from, your link is no good.
2nd check the page source code, find the link tag <a href="">example</a>
-- see if there is a rel=nofollow insert in the tag, if not, the link is good.
from the above example -----<a target="_blank" href="http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ebay-suspensions/1-welcome-aspkin-forums-contribute-contribute.html" id="tscc.www.1.title" class="tsc_result_title">---- good link
--------- Also check the source code page header for the meta tags, look to see if there is a meta = no index, no follow tag in the header. If there is the link is no good because it will not get spidered by the Search engines,
example - <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow" />
Sorry I spoke too soon on the above page, it is restricted in the page source header meta tags. I missed that. apologies |
| 2eXclusiive | 06-07-2008 11:47 PM | you have your own website cynic?
seems like you know Seo/advertising inside out. |
| The_Cynic | 06-07-2008 11:52 PM | Yes, I have my own site, but I am still learning like everyone else. Cheers! |
| 2eXclusiive | 06-07-2008 11:56 PM | cynic - goodluck with it
=D |
| The_Cynic | 06-09-2008 03:43 PM | okay, I found a high PR search engine that gives good links
Hungary search engine (ezilon) PR 6
search: aspkin forums + ebay suspension Ezilon.com - Europe Web Directory and Internet Search Engine
1 -- robots.txt ---- good http://www.ezilon.com/robots.txt
2 -- meta tags in source header, no meta tag restriction -- good
actual page header source code---- <head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0">
<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">
<META NAME="description" content="Ezilon.com - Europe Web Directory and Internet Search Engine">
<META NAME="keywords" content="Ezilon.com - Europe Web Directory and Internet Search Engine">
<title>Ezilon.com - Europe Web Directory and Internet Search Engine</title>
</head>
3 -- link in source code ---- good
from source code
------<A HREF="http://www.aspkin.com/">Aspkin's World - EBay Suspensions & Paypal Limited Discu...</A>-----
Now to get that link to count for your site all you need to do is submit that page to major search engines, ( see previous post where I list the urls)
or put a link to that page on a page that you know ill get spidered.
and voila! on the next go round your site will move up in SERPS |
| 2eXclusiive | 06-09-2008 04:35 PM | cynic - you should do seo serivce, get paid =D |
| 411guru | 06-09-2008 05:59 PM | Excuse my noobness but what is rel=nofollow? |
| The_Cynic | 06-09-2008 07:33 PM | It is a tag that Google mandated be put into forums and paid links to help them with identifying people trying to game the search results.
If a link has a rel=nofollow tag in it, the Google spider will not count the link for the site it connects to. Meaning that site gets no search engine results page help from that link. |
| 411guru | 06-09-2008 07:52 PM | Ok. Thanks. |
| mantisinc | 06-10-2008 01:59 PM | It's a bloody pain Facebook is nofollow. I've just found a PR8 forum, that is not busy AT ALL, and I posted on 3 threads, one PR6, and 2 PR5. Added links to my sig before hand, no one suspected I was a spammer :D
It's always fun finding good PR links.
However, just remember, Pagerank is NOT the most important thing in the world. |
| 2eXclusiive | 06-10-2008 02:43 PM | phst
its is too me
lol |
| The_Cynic | 06-11-2008 12:54 AM | mantis, care to share the url? no biggie if you don't.
If anyone has tips, please share, the traffic to this forum is about ebay suspension not seo, so there isn't much chance of ruining a good thing. I doubt most users get past the ebay and paypal threads.
If you update a page on your site or if you want a page in which you have injected a link to be spidered right away, one other option beside the URL submit, see previous post, is a ping service. That will get you spidered quick.
try this one, it's free Ping-o-Matic! |
| mantisinc | 06-11-2008 12:22 PM | The_cynic, I would... but really don't want it to end up being known for spam, like the adobe forums.
However if I come across another which I haven't used, I'l let you know :D |
| The_Cynic | 06-22-2008 03:51 PM | First, a new high PR website that will give you good links. LinkedIn: Relationships Matter - PR8-- if you get an account (Free) your profile page will allow 3 good links.
---- Now, a way to use this site to get on the 1st page of Google. I recently searched Google for "Buy Viagra" -that phrase is one of THE most competitive on the entire internet. To rank in Google for that phrase you will literally need many THOUSANDS of links.
When I checked I found on page 2 (rank 16) for this phrase, one of the most competitive on the net, a profile page from -linkedin.com-. I did research on that -linkedin- profile page and it had only 100 inbound links, versus the other sites which had to have THOUSANDS of links to get on that page.
The links to that -linkedin- page were really crappy too, (mostly forum comments where a link was injected).
So, the lesson. If you want to rank on the first SERP of Google for almost any term, use a profile page from LinkedIn or another high PR, trusted site as a proxy to drive traffic to your site.
It is a thousand times easier to get a page from LinkedIn or Webshots to the top of the SERPS on Google than it is to get a page from an unknown site.
So set up a -LinkedIn- or webshots page with links to your site, then use the above referenced sites that give good links to link to that --Linkedin- or other High PR trusted site, wait a few months and Viola! you should now have one of top spots for your keyword.
I am trying this for my sites and I will let you know how it goes. |
| 411guru | 06-22-2008 11:36 PM | Yet another good tip. Thanks. |
| The_Cynic | 06-29-2008 11:35 AM | I noticed something about sites saved with Google bookmarks a couple of weeks ago.
----On the old firefox my vista system would freeze up and crash a lot and this caused me to lose my bookmarks. To get around having reload my bookmarks from a file in to firefox. I tried Delicious and reddit and a few social bookmarking sites, but they didn't cut it. So I downloaded the google toolbar and saved my bookmarks on that. You can access your bookmarks from any computer plus from explorer, if you use both Firefox and explorer.
Now, I saved the page from one of my websites on my google toolbar in a folder with a unusual funny name. A couple of weeks ago on a lark, I searched Google for that funny name. Now, guess what showed up in that search?, #1 position
That's right, the page from my website that I saved in that Google bookmarks folder with the funny name. On the page there is no reference whatsoever to the funny name, that page has nothing to do with the funny name. The only reference is in the Google bookmarks folder.
----------Googles uses Bookmarks data to help in their rankings---------
So the lesson, Get the Google toolbar and start saving the pages you want to rank for keywords in folders named for that keyword.
Now to be fair, that was an odd phrase with only 150,000 reference returned in the results, so it was not that competitive at all. However, Google is giving pages saved this way a leg up, so why not use it?
I have also heard that they use del.icio.us data, so get your important pages saved there too with the right keywords, of course. |
| aspkin | 06-29-2008 10:58 PM | This thread might actually help me out pretty soon... I'm in the process of backlinking a ton of my sites. The more high ranking backlinks the better. Thanks Cynic. |
| The_Cynic | 07-14-2008 04:24 PM | I just downloaded the free software comment kahuna. It finds relevant places to inject a comment and get good links. I am testing it over the next week or so and I will report back. Comment Kahuna | Free Link Building Software
I am also looking into some clean 3way link exchanges.
If anyone has a website that deals concerts, music, or posters, I can get you some links if you want to do a 3 way. I have a PR 4 and a PR3 plus about 10 other sites under my control. |
| Irule22 | 07-15-2008 04:38 PM | Hey Cynic. I have a website that sells autographed movie posters, photos, etc. Check it out... Autograph Dreams - Movie Posters, Autographed, Celebrity, Cast Signed, Photo, Scarface, Godfather, Hollywood Memorabilia, Television Memorabilia. I am new to all of this and am learning how to get traffic up, so I am going to need alot of "Hand Holding". |
| Irule22 | 07-15-2008 04:39 PM | Wow, I just saw how the link popped up in this thread, how the HECK did it show up like that?? |
| GreenBean | 07-15-2008 06:17 PM | Hey! I can answer that.... I think LOL.:p You inserted a link and ergo it comes up in the thread. (sort of,maybe?);) |
| The_Cynic | 07-15-2008 07:03 PM | Hey there Gary,
When you post a url it automatically grabs the page title to use as the anchor text.
---Dump the login requirement, it will Kill your sales conversion ratio. You will get email addresses after they buy anyway. Plus it is much cleaner to give a freebie away to build a mailing list.
--I checked out your site. Yahoo says you have 930+ links but almost all of those come from anythingwholesalaz. Your google page rank is 0.
----Did the Brody guys do your site? If they did, you should ask for money back because they gave you a CRAP file structure. Those database query string URLs are search engine death.
----You should remove the links to their site
---Not to even mention your dupe content issues.
As it stands your site will have a very hard time in the Search engines.
I did see you had some digg submissions too. That's a good use of your time, You should think of developing some content pages that will get dugg.
As for me linking from my sites, I am sorry to say that I am extremely wary of autographed stuff. I have read estimates that 95% of the autographed stuff out there is bogus. No disrespect to you on that, but I would want to see some proof that your autographs are kosher before I link.
Overall, Sorry to say, but I recommend, scrapping your site and getting a free word press download and a free wordpress css template. That will fix the url problem and give you a seo friendly basis to work on. Or keep the site up and redo another one with wordpress. |
| 411guru | 07-15-2008 08:54 PM | Gary,
You only have 5 links in google when I search for your address. Not good. Google is not picking up your product urls. Did you have google analytics or google webmasters tool. You should submit your site map to google. It will help google find all your pages faster, not just home page. Also set google bot crawl rate to high. |
| Irule22 | 07-16-2008 04:36 PM | Hey Cynic, I sent you a PM with some other questions, but just wanted to thank you on here as well for such informative and helpful suggestions. Thanks. |
| The_Cynic | 07-24-2008 11:29 AM | I came across a neat little tip to get tip to get several hundred links.
There are literally thousands of free software download sites. Some of the most downloaded programs are niche screensavers. ex. AC/DC screensavers, KISS screensavers, etc...., Through creative commons and others you can get clean, roayalty free pics to use in your screensavers
Now bear with me, There is a lot of crap adware that also get gets into a lot of screensaver downloads, since to install a screensaver you give a .exe active x permission. I am not talking about adding any adware or malware. Let me be CLEAR. I am trying the experiment of making a few CLEAN screensavers, and then giving them as free downloads from pages that will greatly benefit from the links, then submitting the screensavers to free software download sites
The questions for me,
-How many links will giving away a screensaver get me?
plus ancillary questions,
-are the links good ?, and
-what effect will the links from mostly non relevant software download sites do for me?
Preliminary answers
-- You will get as many links as the sites you submit the screensaver to, up to 2,000 sites, submitted = 2,000 links
-- Most software download sites will give 2 links, one to the direct download file and another one to your page on which the download is found.
From preliminary checking 80- 90% of the links are good.
(Note, name your screensaver with the KEYWORDS you want to rank for)
-- Non relevant site links do not count as much as links from relevant sites and in certain cases they can distort your link profile. HOWEVER, from my own experiments with comment Kahuna and few other scripts, I say that those links will still give a HUGE boost to your serps ranking.
________________
To get started, there a few cheap sources for screensaver makers, and then you just fill out a simple pad file for form completes.
The only real limitation is the amount of time you want to spend making screensavers and submitting them to the free download sites.
___________
----- WARNING!!!!! keep your screensavers CLEAN. The software sites review submissions for malware and adware, messing with those will probably do your site more harm that good. |
| The_Cynic | 07-24-2008 03:42 PM | I have been thinking about the question of how a raft of links from nonrelevent sites will do for your serps. A couple of examples come to mind that illustrate the point.
The search term "Buy Viagra" -- one of the most competitive on the net. the # 18 result is a --linked in page--, that was basically used as a proxy to drive traffic to the sites that were linked to from that page. In checking out the page's backlinks I found about a hundred bacl links from crappy chinese forums, those forum links had nothing to do with viagra. They were just weak ass forums run copied windows server software that is a walk to exploit. Pure non relevant spam links, but they propelled the page to #18 for one of the most competitive search terms on the net. ( Note doman trust of --LinkedIn-- had a big part to do in the success too). Plus those forum injection spam links have a very short life.
Now compare that to links from software download sites (as I suggest above). Most of the download sites are "trusted" high PR domains. The links are longer term too, as long as your download link still works, the other link should work too.
-- now what if you combined the proxy page technique (ala Linkedin, squidoo, etc..) with the download site links? I think you could have an unbeatable technique here to own the serps.
IMO of course, but I would love to hear any of your thoughts on this. cheers! |
| The_Cynic | 08-05-2008 06:46 PM | I found another site that gives free good do follow links. ScrnShots: Share your inspiration
The account is free and they allow for a source link which is a good do follow link.
example ScrnShots: spoongraphics's Screenshots
see the link in the top right nav bar under description
The PR of the site is 4, not great great, but hey for a free good link, not bad either. |
| 2001kx | 08-10-2008 11:27 PM | so how is this working out for you?
Comment Kahuna | Free Link Building Software
i just downloaded and am gonna play with it...i need lots of help on my 0 rank new website.. |
| The_Cynic | 08-13-2008 07:23 PM | Overall, it's pretty good, although some of the forums which they classify as do follow were in fact rel=nofollow. For about 15 minutes time you can jam out 10 links in relevant forums.
For a freebie it's good.
It finds relevant forums, so your posts can be on topic. |
| 2001kx | 08-26-2008 02:44 PM | it quit working for me?
when i do a search with commentluv nothing comes up no matter what keyword i use? |

| The_Cynic | 09-01-2008 05:14 PM | Another place to get 3 or 4 good links is a yahoo profile. The members area of yahoo is PR 7 but I am sure the profile stuff is discounted by google. No matter still a nice free good link source.
example portlandposterpole's Yahoo! profile |
| 2eXclusiive | 09-04-2008 04:32 AM | Do you know of any "paid" do-follow links for very good ranking sites? |
| aspkin | 09-04-2008 11:38 AM | There are tons of sites where you can buy backlinks fairly cheap. Do a Google search for backlinks. |
| 2eXclusiive | 09-04-2008 02:50 PM | Yea, but how can you tell the garbage ones from the good ones. The good ones are more difficult to find. |
| The_Cynic | 09-04-2008 06:56 PM | The best company to buy links is text Link Ads, Text Link Ads - Smart Link Marketing They are expensive, but they they have some awesome sites high PR, authority sites.
I would look at writing some link bait or a doing a widget. More links /$ with those.
Also don't discount the value of links you can get by giving away a screensaver as I posted about above. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 07:01 PM. | |
