NEW IP Address Comcast xfinity arris tg1682g

Question regarding xfinity router ip address

I used to be able to change my mac addess and get new ip 5 years ago. Then I xfinity had new equipment recently where i wasn't able to . They did a all in one router type of thing and seems it blocked changing the mac.

I had netgear before and it was easy but now seems im out of luck in getting new static ip?

You turned off the modem and made it on - and no change in IP?

elaborate? I actually use tethering but there are some extraction I'm doing that is not releated to ebay buying. Not downloading pirated things but for my business research.

Seems technology is moving so fast. I feel we can't catch up to these new security.

Guess, it's good time to be in school and broaden my horizon.

OP - I had the same problem with Comcast when I was using them a few years ago. I hated every part of Comcast, lol.

From what I learned through my own experimentation, the only way to get a new Comcast IP with one of their "two-in-one router/modems" is to change the mode. If you login to 192.168.0.1 or whatever your local gateway IP is and access your router's firmware, you're given the option to switch between "bridge" and "router" mode (or something similar to those.. it's been a long time for me). If you switch it from router to bridge mode you will get a new IP. But in bridge mode you'll have to use a separate Wifi router to have Wifi.

Everything with them is hard-coded to your Comcast account. You could hook up your router/modem on the other side of the country and still get the same IP.

The all-in-one routers do not grant you access to change the MAC address.

Easiest (and most economical solution), return the modem/router combo and buy your own modem.

I just moved and signed up with Comcast (again). I own my modem and router. I simply had them activate the MAC address of my modem on their network. I have full control over change IP anytime I want.

Do yourself a favor and return their combo router. Buy your own. Have them activate your new modem's MAC on your account. You'll save $15/month in modem rental fees from that horrible company.

So you think they did the all in one because they didn't want people to play around with up address and also help crack down any piracy?

Which modem/router combo did you get and was the speed and up time the same?

I'm in Seattle where I'm getting around 90mbs for a fairly cheap plan.

So this is step I should take.

1. Get new router/modem (I'm guessing any combo will do but recommended ones I like to get for sure)
2. Call Comcast or return the 3 in 1(I think they charge monthly for this too)
3. Call Comcast and register my modem/router and get new mac addess.
4. Change one Mac number at the end logging onto my router

And I'll get new IP?
