Easiest (and most economical solution), return the modem/router combo and buy your own modem.
I just moved and signed up with Comcast (again). I own my modem and router. I simply had them activate the MAC address of my modem on their network. I have full control over change IP anytime I want.
Do yourself a favor and return their combo router. Buy your own. Have them activate your new modem's MAC on your account. You'll save $15/month in modem rental fees from that horrible company. | So you think they did the all in one because they didn't want people to play around with up address and also help crack down any piracy?
Which modem/router combo did you get and was the speed and up time the same?
I'm in Seattle where I'm getting around 90mbs for a fairly cheap plan.
So this is step I should take.
1. Get new router/modem (I'm guessing any combo will do but recommended ones I like to get for sure)
2. Call Comcast or return the 3 in 1(I think they charge monthly for this too)
3. Call Comcast and register my modem/router and get new mac addess.
4. Change one Mac number at the end logging onto my router
And I'll get new IP?
