CABLE MODEM windows 8 virgin media & router questions
 

Hello everyone

please help

I have cable modem and Netgear router I just could'nt get the IP address to change despite trying all the stuff like resetting
the modem, unpluging turning it off etc.
I followed the instructions in the stealth book and the top post in this thread( How to change IP address if you have a ROUTER and a CABLE MODEM ) still did not work

I'm with virgin media (cable modem), I'm using a Netgear vmdg280 wireless router (ip dynamic)
hp pavilion g6 laptop Windows 8
i could not find any MAC setting when i logged in to my router


This is what i can see when i logged in to my router :

I'm not too sure how to change the MAC ID, can someone point me in the right direction, please

Did you go under basic settings or advanced?? Your on the right page you just need to keep exploring , it's there and you will be able to change the MAC and than after reset modem and router

hi, i clicked Mac filter under Advance setting the only option i can see it Add MAC filter , where you can add Device name Mac address etc

I've got more or less the same router as you.

You do not need to go into the netgear setting, you'll end up messing things up.

If you do have a dynamic IP all you need to press the reset button at the back of the router and should give you a new one.

make a record of of it on a spreadsheet as well.

Is that only a router or does it serve as your modem to the internet? If the latter, first go to ipburger.com - write the IP - turn OFF the modem - wait 5 min or so - fire it up - go back to ipburger.com and see if the IP changes

Virgin use sticky IP's. Only method I have ever managed to change the IP address with it outlined in this thread - http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ip-addr...super-hub.html
