Anyone getting differnt format for Public IP Address

Specifically i have a Verizon JetPack MIFI 5510L 4GLTE

Normally the IP has always been something like 70.192.168.11 , now

That the last 2 days im getting 2600:1012:b011:1e6c:41fc:ecf1b10:827b

Now this is something i never seen, i changed browsers and been using whoer.net, ipchicken , and thats the IP displayed, each time i turn off and on its thd same IP format slightly changed.

Anyone getting these IP adresses??? Or know if this is some new formatt.

Also when im looking up the IP the isp has been coming up as Eli Lilly and not Verizon

It's an IPv6 address. The IPv4 address pool was depleted years ago.

ISP's have been making the transition very slowly. Most who do give you a v6 address use some kind of porting or tunneling, so you'll have an IPv4 address also. Have you tried googling "show my IPv4 address"? I've had to do that a few times to find mine.

Thanks, im gonna start reading up on this, yesterday was the first day that my verizon wireless mifi switched over to this and its the first time i had this type of IP

yea those stats are most likely from mobile IP pools being used.

im still IPv4 on my VZW mifi as of yesterday. will keep an eye out

how would that work if VZW stops issuing IPv4? wouldn't it need NAT or something to keep working? havent tried it yet, but first thing that came into mind. your ISP controls the public IP you are issued, not you.

not all devices are compatible with ipv6 nor are most websites - the chances of any ISP not issuing ipv4 within the next 10+ years probably very slim

if you disable ipv6 on your PC, you will always get an ipv4 from your ISP

Most of the times, most websites will collect your ipv4 not your ipv6 information, so be careful

Some websites / webpages don't work with ipv6 aka not compatible so your computer will automatically use your ipv4 instead for those pages

Thanks again for posting this link, im sure other members will find this extremely useful in the upcoming days and weeks as carriers introduce IPV6 Addresses.

FROM what posts on this thread have mentioned is that eBay and Paypal as of right now only operate with IPV4 Adresses. And what i found out from the website , that can be accesed from the link here is that if we are showing an ipv6 adress we also have an ipv4 which this website reveals.

And What is very important that i have found out from logging both types of IP ADRESSES the last 2 days is that the long IPV6 Adress may change but your IPV4 Adresss does not always change with it. Two separate logins where i turned off the mifi for 15minutes in between logins, my ipv6 address has changed but when i went to the website and revealed my ipv4 address it had stayed the same.

And according to what i learned from this thread eBay and Paypal see the ipv4 not the ipv6 address, so its crucial to reveal your ipv4 address with a site like the one posted, because the regular IP sites will show only the ipv6 and this will mess up your stealth accounts if the ipv4 address is staying the same
