Default Paypal Limited - Owe them money from early 2000s?!

One of my longest Paypal account was recently limited today. I've had this account for well over 2+ years. Today they told me that my account was linked to another account back in 2002 or 2001, and that I owe them x amount of money. The rep had mentioned that the SSN on the account belongs to me but the name doesn't.

First off, how can Paypal still chase me for a case that happened eons ago? And secondly, how would I remember after 6+ that I ever made this transaction? I had told the rep that my identity got stolen before, so this might have been the cause. I even called ER Solutions (debt collector for eBay) to find out more info about this case and they couldn't find anything.

One thing I do know, I'm not paying Paypal $ for something that happened 6+ years ago. If this case happened a year ago then they actually have a case, but to tell someone they owe Paypal x amount of cash after years of waiting will not sit well with anyone.

Any tips on what to do? My case was resent to the review team. I believe the linked account also has the same registered address and SSN#, but it has a different name, bank info, email address, credit card info.

If you owe them money they can try and get it back from you no matter whether its a day ago or a decade ago, whether you decide to pay them or not is up to you. Nothing else to do other then either pay them or start making stealth accounts.

Not sure what you mean here. They linked the accounts by your SSN?

If thats the case, you are dead in the water on this one.

i'm not sure if they linked my previous account with the new one using the my ssn. to be honest i don't even remember typing my ssn on the newer account. i usually try to avoid typying my social on the net. i had told them that it could have been an identity theft, and that someone might have used my dad's name and one of our socials.

i did call the ER Solutions to check if they had my name in their record, and the lady that answered said no. so that means they lost my file or i don't have case at all?

Actually I believe even in debt the statute of limitations takes hold unless it is in their agreement or a clause.

HOWEVER! The statute of limitations IS 7 YEARS and BEYOND.

This may be why they are pursueing this...

Well, statute aside PayPal is a private business and can refuse to do business because they don't like your eye color. So 7 years or 17 all they have to say is pay or you're gone...

Forcing people to pay others or old debts is pretty gray area I'm sure legally. But it all falls back on they can toss you out if they please
