This just seems to be a way for PP to get verification before allowing funds to leave the account.

I highly doubt this is the idea.
That would mean that nobody could use a paypal-balance to pay for anything without providing SS. If this would be true you might as well shut PP down - millions of users gone instantly.

This has been my own experiece on the last two accounts I recently created. Seems as there are also a few others here experiencing the same thing as well. Any ideas?

Makes sense to me. Seems like a reaction by PP to people using stealth accounts for fraud. They want you to either add a bank they can draw funds from or prove who you are before giving you access to money.

It happens to me all the time now...unless your first deposit is from ebay sale.

I always create accounts with VBA and VCC, so they are not asking me to add it after/at "claim your money".

All my accounts are always started with ebay-sales, so that's also not it (I think).

Again: I had this happen to a second account and got the same reply from "customer service": it's a glitch, your funds are OK, we are fixing it.

I'm opening a bunch more accounts this week, so let's see!

I would bet it's not a glitch, but a trial run of a new feature they're rolling out.

I think the part is right if you already add a VBA this claim your money thing won't pop up, but I usually don't add a bank acct until after I'm sure the account is stable and taken in a little bit of money already.

Claim your money doesn't go away by adding VBA after, during or prior to...

Make your own thread explaining what is happening to you?

The same exact thing. Is a new thread really necessary if the problem is exactly the same ?

Unless they'll accept an EIN there's no defeating this. :violin:

Every situation is its own - lot of details need to be considered per account - setup, sales, actions, etc

Re: New "feature" Claim your money? SS needed

i have no US paypals but EU, and i have this "Claim your money" button sometimes. it seems to be related to the buyers payment method in my case as it is very rare and i can not see any pattern in the countries or amounts.

We do not have SSN here, so i am not forced to enter any additional info, just click the button..

maybe it is because the buyers account is not verified?!
