Of course they knew about stealth accounts and of course there are numerous PP employees posing as reputable members here.

Like I said I think Paypal's hand is being forced by the government. There's no way crypto is going to "take over" though. Not possible in the world we live in. If this update results in a huge seller purge, I think it's a lot more likely Amazon would just pick up the slack and dominate even more of the market.

So true, there is definitely people posing as "helpful" members. Only if we had a list of them.

If theyre able to get the DOBs and SSNs then if anything their accounts will now look even more legit.
This update does absolutely nothing to fight this issue.

I agree with sloker. It seems like it may be a cashgrab from shady stealthers but not solve any identity theft issue.

All I see this update doing is keeping the half ass stealthers out of the game or making them cross lines never required before.

UK style stealth may be coming to the USA.

I applied a debit card recently. They screened me and my password live in webcam. They checked the holograms in flashlight. One day, they will solve the identity issue.

That is A LOT of assumptions! They ask UK for all of this except SS seeing as they dont have any.

I believe after the 19th you can still open accts without all this bullst. So what are they asking and when? Only existing accts get the verification request? Why not all of them up front? That's my only hope. Unverified until when?

If you have your real bank account attached and all you ever did was pull your funds into those bank accounts then nothing changes.
Some people realy do need to calm down.
We already went over it several times.
IF they require further verification it will impact only people who cannot add a real US bank account to their accounts in any real way - meaning non US users.
And we still dont have enough information to determine exactly what sort of extra verification that might be.
Just chill already. This panic mode doesnt suit you.

^^^ You don't know that for sure? Yes it's what always has been and I'm all for it. I just worry that they want more. I got the email to get my funds on two 6 month PP's...sent doc's...they are keeping my money!!!!
These PP's frozen when I went to send 50 bucks 6 months ago to another mind you.

Im going by what paypal are saying.
They state theyre changing things for the way the existing balance can be used. They specifically state that youll still be able to withdraw it to your bank account.
All I can do is go by what theyre saying at this point.
And for the record - I myself have not seen any issues as of yet.

Don't you see? When you are 'verified' right at the beginning you ad a card/bank pow verified. Why send a message we are changing....why change if you are verified? Why not 'Unverified acct's cannot send/receive that should be the old way. NOT as they discribe now.

Ok so now they'll be asking for the SSN, DOB, a bank account, statement of said bank account, verification questions and a prostate exam. Am I missing anything? This is ALL speculation. All of it. the simple fact is none of us know exactly how this is going to be done so panicking right now is pointless.
And to counter what you said - The SSN and DOB can easily be bought online. Using said SSN and DOB and any number of public database companies that provide their services for $9.95 per month one can find pretty much all the info necessary to pass said verification questions. A bank statement can easily be photoshoped. The prostate exam will need a special template - Im sure one can be arranged.
Did I miss anything?
Point is - where there is will there is a way and if nefarious elements want to avail themselves of paypal's services they will be able to do so no matter what security measures/obstacles are placed in their way.
Im not in denial. I just dont see the point in wasting all this time on something that we simply dont know enough about. When this feature rolls out and we actually know what we're dealing with ill get to work on a solution. Right now youre working on a solution to a question that has way too many variables and not enough data.

Paypal steals money from people all the time. I can understand the anger. Its why we all came here to begin with.
With this specific situation though theres no point in being impatient or angry.
We know something is coming. We're not sure of the details. We know what the various possibilities are and we know what our options are in case of these various possibilities.
We did the preparatory work. Now we need to wait for it to actually be implemented to know what we actually need to do or can do about it.
Never forget we're all on the same side here.
