You worked for a year for that? So sorry.
Why were you not taking it out as you made the money?
Has everything been delivered? What were you selling?

Legal action is not an option since it was a stealth account so he broke their ToS from the very first second.
Learn from this experience and never leave such large amounts of money in a paypal account.

Why the hell do people not withdraw their funds ? I simply don't get it. Even if Paypal didn't have this law of theirs to take your money, how does it make any sense to let funds pile up so high ? don't you have suppliers to pay, stock to buy ? It only makes me think all this money is nothing but pure profit from illegal vero items. Same with all the other sellers that have had many thousands taken from them.

Just saying that legal action is not a very realistic option. In all the years Ive been on this forum (and Ive been here since 2008) I have yet to come across a single success story involving legal action taken by a forum member against paypal.

Assuming your funds are legit as the personal information on the account, I would hire a lawyer to send them a demand letter and pursue legal action.
The same happened to me but I really don't know if I should do something as it was around $2k. They are obvious criminals and they are targeting people who does not have it easy to take them to court.

In all the years Ive been on this forum (and Ive been here since 2008) I have yet to come across a single success story involving legal action taken by a forum member against paypal. | Have you heard anyone lose an arbitration case against PayPal is the question? Usually settlements result in non disclosures as well. Also usually most users never follow up with their status.
PayPal has lost many cases both big and small over the years. Simple google search can show court cases online and media reporting paypal having to pay damages etc.
People need to realize however you don't take paypal to court, you write demand letters and/or go to pre arbitration to try to resolve it 1st. If unsuccessful, per their user agreement you're required to take it to arbitration to settle disputes. Amazon for example has a similar procedure. You are unlikely to ever win a lawsuit directly if you file against Amazon both in civil court or arbitration but you try to negotiate a settlement before it goes to that process. While I have no experience with PayPal, with Amazon however their attorneys are cooperative at resolving disputes.

When you file a money claim against Paypal, it never reaches court, as they always choose to settle the claim before it reaches court as they will have to incur even more fees then. So your identity will never be brought into question. Secondly, many people have filed claims against Paypal in stealth names on this forum. A quick search will verify that. I don't know how it works in the US, but over here creating a money claim form is easier than creating a stealth account.

But when you receive a few thousands a day, it's different story. You go to sleep and when you're wake up, your balance raised up thousands of dollar. And then it's limited. you have no time to react! It is not a problem for waiting 180 days until this damn AUP thing happens.
So, to answer your stupid question (my words literally not telling you're stupid but your questions is), they couldn't withdraw their fund since their accounts are LIMITED.
Setting multiple accounts works but not always.

Setting multiple accounts works but not always. | Even if you're receiving thousands a day it doesn't make sense to let your balance climb to $26k. What james said was logical, not stupid. Paypal added the auto-sweep option for a reason. The OP's account certainly was not limited when he received this $26k, because if it were he wouldn't have been able to receive any payments. He let his balance go up to $26k when his account was fully functional, which was a really dumb thing to do.
The one thing that hasn't been discussed yet is probably the most important factor in all of this. What is it that you were doing in the first place that allowed you to collect $26k without having to withdraw anything to pay suppliers or take care of business expenses? Probably something illegal, right?

did he receive $26k as one payment or multiple payments over a certain period?
I see OP took a year to accumulate $26K
There are reasons why a person would keep $$ in his Paypal account,to pay vendors,no bank account,do not want to transfer to bank account,to hide from spouse ,creditors, tax authority.
those who collect government benefits ,states do access their bank accounts to find out if they are making more than allowed .
Foreign sellers also would do so to hide from their tax authority,

Countries with weak currencies do not like their citizens to weaken the currencies further by selling local currency to buy hard currencies like US $,Swiss Franc,Euros.
India has law which would prohibit a merchant to ship goods overseas without showing they have received the payments in local bank,at one time, they also discourage Indians from hoarding too much gold, using India rupees to buy gold!
Look no further than our Uncle, dont we all have to declare any foreign bank accounts with balance exceeding XXX??
and what is the penalty if you do not declare?
