Greendot vs. New Bank Account

I will be using the funds in my new Paypal account to live off of (groceries, gas, entertainment).

Which would be safer/easier? Trying to open a new checking account, or adding a Greendot card, and using it everywhere?

I have lost several eBay accounts, but have never been in trouble with Paypal. Thanks as always, everyone.

First Edition 04-16-2010 08:38 PM

A new bank account is by far the easieast way to go. A greendot card is basically a bank account... but it is not a good idea to use with paypal

Bank Of America, US Bank, Chase, and suntrust work very well for me.

Killer Bee 04-16-2010 09:54 PM

i agree i use bank of America FREE checking accounts and once you sign up for online banking. making new FREE checking accounts will take no more than 2 minutes with nothing to fill out because they already have all your information. all you do is click a link, click a couple of tick boxes and your done seriously. badda boom, badda bing. right now i am doing the Free checking with a savings account combo which is FREE if you maintain a $300 balance and FREE meaning no monthly fees. also remember like the walmart money card is $3 a month in fees so if you have 20 Paypal accounts thats $60 a month going out the door. even if your selling or not. bank accounts are FREE.

Also like say chase bank they just sent me a letter saying they will give me $100 just for opening a checking account and the thing is i already did this once before. so i am off again to sign up for a new chase checking account so i can get another $100. i think last time i stuck a few $100 in their bank for like 6 months and just ignored it and incurred a few fees and still made about $60 after i closed out the account. $60 of return interest on $300 for 6 months is 20%!! only at the bank of stupid will you get that return. silly rabbit tricks are for kids.... wow i can ramble.

Awesome, friend. Thanks so much.

re loadable cards are actually bank accounts... it's just a marketing tool for sub prime customers

its only an option if you have really bad credit, or owe a lot of banks a lot of money

Certain people(who provide CRAPPY details) say they've been limited while using it.
It's been suggested that they may be using the card as both a bank account, and then linking the same card as a CC, and THAT is what limits the account.
We may never know for sure :(

unfortuantemistake 04-24-2010 02:54 AM

Suntrust is the Bank Green Dot uses.

Greendot cards as of today I beleive have been banned from being used on Paypal, as that is the message I receive when trying to add my Greendot Bank Account to Paypal.

It gives me a message saying this Bank Account can not be added to Paypal, to add this Bank Account to your account please send a recent bank statement showing the 2 deposits, along with a scan of a photo ID blah blah blah.

First Edition 04-24-2010 06:09 AM

I don't think anyone understands....

A greendot card, is a bank account. A wal mart card, is a bank account!

Why is ten too much? If you have ten greendot cards.... you have ten bank accounts, with ten account numbers.

doughboykilla 04-24-2010 09:37 AM

Greendot hasnt been banned from paypal lol greendot and paypal are in bed togather now! heck u can even load your paypal with a greendot money pack. Greendot works fine for paypal.

First Edition 04-24-2010 04:42 PM

I looking into ally bank. Anyone uses that ?

alphaversa 04-28-2010 07:27 PM

How many green dot accounts can you open without them shutting you down? I have never used them before but I am considering trying them out as extra bank accounts for Paypal. If I opened say 3 or 4 at once would that be a huge red flag? Anyone who has actual incite on this please respond.

littleredengine07 04-28-2010 08:47 PM

I found some information regarding Alley bank, they formally GMAC bank. I also talked to customer service, its the same as INC direct electric orange account. But instead once you sign up you can open up as many checking accounts you want that what online customer service said. I think it would be a good resource to check out for all those who are using stealth accounts

littleredengine07 04-28-2010 08:49 PM

They also don't carry monthly charges either.

us bank good for stealth purpose?

qvyhnl 04-28-2010 10:33 PM

So can we get a greendot bank account/card with false information?

doughboykilla 04-29-2010 04:38 PM

No greendot must be real info cause they verfiy ssn's

when greendot first came out about 3-4 years ago i was able to open one with a made up ssn and it worked but them days are long gone.

alphaversa 04-29-2010 11:22 PM

Again, I ask...

Is there a limit to the # of green dot accounts you can open without getting shut down? If I open 3 at once will that be a problem?

Greendot is a very picky card so i can bet if u have to many cards u will have problems.

newtools 05-01-2010 10:49 PM

i had a problem trying to cashout transfer to greendot card. it kept rejecting it!

which prepaids, or bank accts. can you have ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name and address and still get your money out to the card or bank acct.?

If you have to use real infos for the bank acct. or card.... which will accept the transfer with different infos?

cardfelon 05-01-2010 11:10 PM

I read the TOS that were printed in the little packet that comes with the card while I was standing in line at Wally World the other day. It said that each person was limited to 2 accounts. Now if that is true or not I do not know for a fact. I do not have a account with them. Just passing along what I read to answer your question.

Green Dot and or Walmart Cards Suck !

Green Dot or Walmart Cards Suck ! I had a couple of them .

I went to do withdrawals on mine and couldn't get any cash out the atm. So I called the 1800 number. They had frozen all my accounts because all my legit info was correct, but on 1 of my cards my first name was shortened from Bobby to Bob (example).

But my SS # and everything was legit, as was everything else. The 1800 person was in Guatamala.

On a different occasion, a paypal employed removed the green dot from 1 of my PP Accounts. He told me to add a different bank info. 3 days later that acct was limited,$ 800.

I would stay away from Green Dot for accepting $$$ for me.

All the funds that were suppose to end up in my GDot- card acct. was reveresed by them and the funds already in the G-Dot Accts were frozen until I called them on the 1800 line.

They released the funds on the 6 Gren Dot accounts, but they also told me to go else where to do my banking.

After they freeze, then release your funds after speaking with them, . They will give you, 3 weeks to withdraw all the funds before closing the accounts. Any remaining balance after the closure will be sent to you by check.

The checks came in the mail to me 2 weeks after closure.

1 week ago , I received 6 New G-Dot Card Accts, for use. But i'm not going through that again.....:boink:

Just my experience. You make your decision....

Is Greendot the same company as Walmart cards?

birti 05-06-2010 02:04 AM

Yep :nono:

HurricaneHuntr 05-06-2010 03:57 PM

Ally is so easy. i now have 3 of them, all 3 i can send money to each other, and then just deposit it from there to my high interest checking account elsewhere... Ally is WIN

cardfelon 05-06-2010 07:56 PM

It says in the TOS you are only allowed 2 accounts with them so yeah if you have 6 I would imagine they have a problem with that. :fight:

This is what I'm wondering too.
If I have a greendot account with the same name as the Paypal account, does the street address and zip have to match to verify Paypal?
It would be a real street address, just not the same one as the Paypal account.

newtools 07-25-2010 05:14 AM

I had probs with greendot and PP also. It kept refusing the transfers to cashout
Walmart is greendot but It's GE money bank.

be careful with ING and 3rd party names and transfers. They closed all my orange savings accts because they wanted me to verify the names the transfers were coming in under while being recorded.
