Default Can paypal collection affect my credit?

I made a new paypal and ebay account under a somewhat ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name and altered address, and eventually got suspended owing paypal about 300 bucks. I didn't think that they could send collections on me, but low and behold somehow IC systems got my real address and found out my home telephone number and began calling me and sending me mail.

Not only am I worried that the delinquency will be put on my credit report, but I am even more worried that the altered name that this is under will show up on my aliases on my credit report.

I sent IC Systems a letter requesting verification of the debt in question, but what I am most concerned about is whether this will be noted on my account even though I never gave paypal my social security number or credit card info. The only legit info that I gave them was my bank, which I closed. I altered the name of my address, but it wasn't enough as IC Systems figured out the proper spelling. The only thing that they haven't caught on to is my name, but I feel as though that's irrelevant since they already found a match on me.

Any thoughts?

They got you. Altered name will go on a credit report as well.

Without giving me the details, have you thought of resolving the matter? And I really do not want to hear about being hard done by, tales of woe. It is your real name and your credit could be affected.
That's best advice.

Yes, it COULD end up on your credit report.

I would advise you to NOT use stealth techniques to circumvent paying fees. You make sales, eBay/PayPal deserve their commissions. You might argue that eBay fees are too high and I might be inclined to agree with you, but not paying for services rendered when you know what the costs are upfront is not right. That type of thing just makes it harder for everyone to use stealth in the future, as it motivates eBay/PayPal to implement new security measures.

If I resolve now, will it still show up on my credit?

First of all if you used a altered or stealth name you just admitted that you did to IC systems.

Why did you send them a verification letter if you used an altered or stealth name?

Only if they have your real name and your SSN would you want to answer them.

Did they send you anything back? If you sent the letter register mail which you should always do, they have 30 days to answer you.

Have you checked your credit report? Use the one a year free credit report and check to see if it is there.

If it is, dispute it.

In most cases IC systems cannot legally verify any account because ebay does not give them the proper and enough information to legally put it on your report.

Also, IC has to have a letter from ebay telling you that they are hired by ebay to collect funds, in most cases again they cannot provide that info.

If they do track you down and it is on your report you need to ask them to settle the amount if they remove the trade line within 15 days of you paying them.

Get everything in writing.

To me, if you altered your name and no address matches they could not have touched you until you sent them the letter.

PEOPLE---- do not answer any letter from IC Systems on a stealth account. No reason to. Do not answer a phone call from IC on a stealth account.

I suggest to never use a close to or altered real name on any stealth account for this reason.

To answer your question in the headline. Yes, if they know it is you and can track it down to you and your SSN matches, address etc matches it will show up on your credit report. But, it has to match as the FDCRA laws require your credit report to be 100% accurate or it has to be fixed or removed.

IC systems is a complete joke, their record keeping is horrific and with some work most people are able to get them removed from the credit report.

100% correct. It only hurts the rest of us.

paypal are not the collection agetns per se. IC Systems handle files on behalf of them.

As your real details are involved, any future questions you have should be addressed to a debt specialist.

Forum advice is general only.

OK this has nothing to do with ebay fees. Paypal screwed me on a dispute and refunded a buyer after they received the product. I used a stealth name because I've been banned in the past and this was the only way to sell again.

The reason why I am concerned about the stealth name showing up on my credit report is because I'm going to be in law school soon and they do something called a "character and fitness" check on you. This entails going through your credit report to check for delinquencies and potentially negative things. I'm concerned that they would see the alias, which is basically my first initial from my first and middle names with a hyphen between my last name (i.e. Andrew Joseph Tushbutt = A.J. Tush-Butt).

I admit that I was too lazy to send it registered mail because if I didn't hear back from them within 2 weeks I was willing to send it again via registered.

Odd thing is, I received a call from them the other day and they asked "Is this xxxxx" and I said "yes" so that I can tell them that the letter is in the mail, and they just hung up after.

But to go back to your point - I never disclosed my social, so how can they have a match?

To get back to MY POINT: go speak to a debt collection specialist.

Debt Collection FAQs: A Guide for Consumers

This is not going any further. Going to Law School and strangers giving advise might implicate you down the track. Not happening.
