I used knowroaming SIM to receive Venmo’s verification text just few days ago.

The SIM gives you a free US number when you activate it, this free number will not expire if you either load money (min $25, balance can transfer from one SIM to another) or open its app every 9 months (not quite sure if I am right.) However, the free number is not quite stable some can pass it but some cannot. I used in-app purchase to buy a new US number then passed the verification for Venmo. There’s an initiate fee for $3 and $3 per month if you would like to keep this paid number.
