January 17th 2016 - USPS Rates Up 10% - 25%
On January 17th, the USPS will be increasing shipping rates between 10% and 25%. Some categories are going to be pretty hard hit.
The priority mail flat rate envelop will increase from $5.05 to $5.75.
First class packages weighing less than 8 ounces will see the largest increases. The new MINIMUM CHARGE for first class packages is going to be $2.60 - so, if you were sending lightweight packages weighing up to 3 ounces, you are now paying $2.04. Under the new minimums, you will pay $2.60 for any package weighing up to 8 ounces.
Mailing a DVD at 5 ounces is now $2.22 and that will also increase to $2.60.
And UPS is also planning a rate increase, although there is little information about their new pricing as of yet.
