The funny thing is I actually had to use it once for a genuine reason, so what happens to those people, suppose they will have to back up their story, anyway if used in a non-obvious way (and you know what I mean by that) and very occasionally may still be ok, its just nobody wants to try it! Ive got a load of holds stacked up and waiting and i aint goin there!!!!!!
The old way still works (it worked yesterday with me), and if you have to do it for a genuine reason you will not get any problems. But if you that everyday the will limet you. Play smart and you will get there.

Lyda,
Believe me I understand what your saying, and I mean nothing bad by my remarks. Its just counter productive when every post you run across has people saying I know but I'm not telling. Seems like you have to join a club or something to get any useful info.

I've been doing this ebay thing full time for years now. I haven't had a job in 5 years. Have 4 kids, house, 2 cars the whole nine.. and right now I'm stuck because I have to use paypal and these holds are killing me when I have to start a new account. I had two ways to get around them. One is for sure no longer working. The other if I was selling one or two high dollar items every few days it would make sense but to go in and change it over and over and over all day long would have to flag an account.

As far as spies figuring out the "trick" from forums like this one, I think it makes more sense that when they noticed a lot of the new accounts started doing things outside of norm on EVERY transaction that threw up a flag as being something that needed to be looked at. I mean really in the time I've spent reading forums on the subject a lot of people seem to have a lot of very wild ideas about what ebay and paypal do and look for. If we do have spies running around I'm sure they're laughing at us on a lot of stuff we come up with.

I know it, Gurusgrafx and there is a lot of truth in what you just said. The problem is that Paypal is so very unpredictable, changing rules constantly and we have to change accordingly while trying to figure other ways around it.....I believe none here has a 'magic wand'. Nobody ever told me what the tricks are, but looks there is more than one out there.

I think I learned about two ways:1 by reading everything about it on the internet and the other I came across reading the posts. To this day I am not 100% sure if I got it right.. All I know is that one 'trick' I tried and is not working for me or I wouldn't keep on getting 21 day holds any more...and the other I never used yet, so I don't know if it works or not. I guess we find out by trial and error...........

Oomp, what do you consider a "small amount?" Are you talking $100-$200?

No,

This will not work. You can send it as service/other, just make a store up. "thanks for the software next time i will pay in advance'' or something like that. This is what i always do, work fine for me.

yes sent about $200 ok quite often, did one for $600, but got limited .

know it costs fees but say you have one ebaypaypal with no bank attached and another ebaypaypal with bank, you could buy your own listing or is that worse?

Just because someone wants to know something that doesn't make them a spy.

I really would like to know the same thing. I have hundreds of dollars on-hold, the "trick" doesn't work for me any longer. Now what?

I have no idea what to do anymore.

I would also like to know, but it's not a good idea to post any "tricks" here, as you can see what happened to all the others.

Alot of us are in the same predicament (s/p?). However, I really don't think this 21 day hold thing will last long. Its extremely ridiculous and I don't think Paypal will be able to survive with it. They will lose massive amounts of users with this. Just wait and see...

I just read an article advising people with holds to call Paypal to have them released once the items are delivered. Do you know how many calls a day paypal will get on this? This won't last long.

Paypal's system needs to be automated and linked to UPS and USPS to release funds as soon is an item is scanned and delivered at the buyers home. Sometimes paypal doesn't release funds until 2-3 days after delivery.

I don't know.
PayPal states the following:

"We hold payments when we suspect a transaction may be risky."

They hold every payment what I receive. Even if it's only $8. Is that possible that all of my transactions are risky?

No, you need to understand their definition of "risky." Risky to paypal is any new account (less than 6 months old) with no established feedback or DSR ratings.

Look through the help section on paypal's site about the hold. They have the requirements on there so you know when you will stop getting the holds. They have been posted here before also. I believe HWGA posted them in a thread. Funds are released 3 days after the item has been received also.

There is actually an easy solution to the problem. Takes a bit more work, but is a very viable solution.

It does take a bit more work but there is still a very viable solution that I don't think Paypal will change.

Yeah I hadn't been on the fourm in awhile and I tried the 21 day trick today that
had been working for me and it didn't work anymore that sucks I figured it was only a matter of time before they figured it out. I think I know the other trick but I am afraid of locking up my account I've had it up and running for almost a year. Just staying
under the raidar and only selling a few things a week and it's working so far keep my fingers crossed. The other day I just let one of my hold get realeased on it's own because I didn't want to raise to many flag with the method that was working and it took about 5 days after the item was delivered to release the hold. I guess we will just have to play by there rules if we want to keep our accounts open I just hope I don't get screwed out of the money luckly most of the things I sell are worth $50 or less if I do lose out.
