here is my experiences with the 21 day hold.

about 2 months ago I open up a stealth paypal and ebay. Keep in mind I'm new at this but followed the stealth guide.

I follow all the major steps and do my best on the others. I let the account age about 20 days while buying a few items and get a few feedback. lol. by a few I mean around 2 LOL. I sell an item, its a heavily vero'd item as far as Ive read.. think beachbody.. it sells I get the payment of around 50 dollars. 21 day hold on the payment no biggie knew it was coming.

Fast forward about 4 weeks and I've sold a few more items and Ive got payments around the 50 dollar mark, all being held 21 days. About 5 days later after another sale or two, I realize I have to update ebay and paypal with the status of shipping, I didn't know I had to do it on paypal, I thought just ebay. So, I go into my paypal account and mark all previous sales as shipped, around 6 items. BOOM 3 or 4 holds automatically come off, with the oldest item being around 10 days. I didnt use paypal to buy postage and neither paypal or ebay had tracking information for the items. very wierd.

Fast forward about 5-6 weeks now, Ive been selling a 5 items a week or so and taking payments, all payments are being held, I'm now using paypal to print postage and I'm shipping quite quickly within 24 hours. I keep getting payments but they are all being held.

Jump ahead 7-8 weeks, I'm now up to just under 10 feedback 100% positive (why can't more then 30% of people leave feedback!) Today I sell my largest $$$ wise item and get the payment, is it held? NO. it was about $110. I never sold anything 3 figures before. What can I draw out of this? I don't know.

I hope this post helps someone

You always say things but you never explain how or why... not really nice of you...:(

Well, for me i started a new stealth paypal/ebay account 3 weeks ago. Both are brand new and on the second day I sold a high VeRO item for about ~$400. It was placed on hold for 21 days. I shipped the item right away and buyer received 3 days later. I waited 3 days before calling paypal and asking them if they can remove the hold becuase the item was delivered, and they did remove the hold. My buyer never left me any feedback still, and so I have 0 feedback. Yesterday i sold the exact same item for about another $400 and this time no hold. I dont understand how this can be. I have 0 feedback and the account is 3 weeks old.

I guess I am never ever going to figure Paypal out.

DogFacedBoy 07-26-2010 09:51 AM

I always thought that it was either after FB was left or 21 days after delivery confirmation, whichever comes first.
Is your PP verified? If not how are you going to get $800 out in the very first month?

hamoudy339 07-26-2010 10:30 AM

Yes my Paypal is verified. I withdrew $330 after my first purchase, and am kind of scared to do the same now. Do you suggest i withdraw between $100-$200 today and then wait a couple days and do the same?

So you sold $800 in a week on a 3 week old eBay account and paypal account and no limitation!? Consider yourself very fortunate! :)
What category did you sell in anyways?

I think it varies on a per person or account basis.

I have 2 accounts brand new. On 1 of them, 1st 3 sales had no holds while next 6 all were held.

Other account, very 1st sale and next 10 all 21-day hold.

These are both (0) feedback brand new accounts at the time but as soon as feedback was received, holds were lifted.

Be nice if it was easy to figure out paypals determining factors for this and many other things

personal account
I agree with your stamen as i recently had two accounts and on the fist i clocked up 150 feed back over 3 months stated selling the first day i opened it with items valuing from £30 to £800 and the bast selling item was selling at around £300.00 and the £800.00 item i had 3 sales on the 4 and 5th day of opening the account, i am still using this account now and its not that old .

prem account
also the second account went to around 43 feedback, only the last sale was held up over the 21 day thing and all the sale was for the £300 item .

and the are all high risk vero (or what ever it is ) items .

i never seem to run into the 21 day problem when i open a personal pp account and ebay sellers.

DAILYHUNDRED 07-27-2010 03:01 AM

My last ebay experience my account was under 30 days old, I just had to get 20 DSR ratings and my payments would not have a hold anymore.

Getting holds on every BIN auction on a new 2 week account, 1 day auction I get no holds at all. As soon as feedback was received the holds are being removed within hours.

I have believed for Quite some time that Paypal has a Very Complex AUTOMATED System that determines How Account Holds are Managed, and Most other Account Dynamics as well.
I believe that the System is Regionalized, and Factors in an Astounding Number of The Accounts facts, from Where the account was first Created from, All Known IP Addresses Associated with the account, Frequency of Account Login's, Account Login times, as well as Phone Numbers (Who Issued the Number is a Simple Lookup), Addresses, Names and Name Variations, Bank Accounts, Possibly Banks Physical Location in Relation to Accounts Address (Bank account number gives them that info), Debit/Credit card (Who Issued the Card)ANY Possible Links to other Accounts, as well as What you are selling, what Catagories, what SPECIFIC items, Frequency, and MUCH, MUCH More.

This information gives the Paypal "Bots" a Series of "Scores" and based on these Scores the Bots act as Programed.

I Believe that the system is so Complicated and takes so Much information into consideration that from the outside looking in (As we are) it looks "Random"

I Base this on some "Simple" Numbers, Paypal has about 1800 Employee's, as filed with the Securities Exchange Commision, (SEC Oversees the Stock Market), there have been 200,000,000 Paypal Accounts created in the last 15 years or so, How many have been Suspended is NOT Important, this means that There are Well over 1,000,000 accounts created PER MONTH----I can see NO WAY 1800 Employee's Can Review all those accounts, I may be Wrong, but I doubt it

DogFacedBoy 07-27-2010 10:28 AM

This all seems to make sense, but yet why do some people with 100% stealth info accounts seems to get around the limits

I believe so too. I have always suspected its quit similar to a credit score. Some things give points. Some things remove points. Somethings are worth lots of points and some are quit minor. Dozens or even more factors help create the score. Every single thing you do, no mater how simple is scored in some way. Not just 5 or 6 major areas. And All add/subtract from your score - Said score is what determines everything that happens and what you can and can not do with your account. A high enough score and you go unmolested. It gets too low and you get holds and limits

slapped 07-27-2010 11:00 AM

I think it is MUCH More Complicated than a Credit score.

Credit scores simply refelect how you Handled debit in your PAST in relation to your Earnings for Possible credit in the Future.
All this based on information Provided by Trustworthy, Accredited, Corporations.

Here Paypal is trying to Determine things like Trust, which is MUCH More Difficult Based on Information YOU Provide a Source that Paypal CANNOT Assume is Trustworthy.

Absolutely. I was just using the comparison as to more points, more leeway

I think everything you do is taken into account. Even something as simple as how long it takes to set up account and even pages you visit on site. But yes, I would guess its extremely complex for sure

I take that statement back, I just sold the same item and got a hold this time. I'm starting to think the hold thing is random!

rsot 07-27-2010 01:43 PM

Also depends on what you are selling - Slapped has affirmed this before.

lenny1jz 07-28-2010 03:59 PM

Could it be an issue with paying via CC, Bank, Paypal balance or Paypal CC? Has anyone tried this experiment?

GreenBean 07-28-2010 08:25 PM

HeeHee. Part of the issue, lenny. :spy:

Like slapped said, paypal has a formula. Each account faces that and there is a reaction. :ranger: We as users if paypal need to find our best action(s)

pod 07-28-2010 08:29 PM

I think sender has some bearing in hold as well. A new sender is likely to be a higher risk then a long time verified user
