changing ip address=new cable modem?

hey guys,

i'm looking to start a new amazon account (4th attempt)
will replacing my modem help in getting a new IP address?

(along with the new bank account + address + etc)

@ruexbluesummer...As discussed below, it seems that there is a very low probability that your IP will change.

Also there are some other factors regarding your Ethernet adapter that will have to be addressed before you start a new Amazon account.

What if the IP address changes but only the last digits are changed? Is that a Static IP? Will that kind of IP change still work with stealth?

The person specifically stated they are using a CABLE modem. Not the nasty AOL dialup.

Changing the modem will NOT get a new IP address. I have tons of modems that I can swap in and out. But if I do not change my router MAC, every modem will give me the same IP address.

So, to answer the original question, don't bother changing cable modem. Change router MAC. Check the links in my signature line. One of those is useful.

No, static means NOTHING changes. Yours would be dynamic.

The first pair in your IP will not change. Only the last pair would possibly change. Usually only the last changes, but sometimes the last pair does.

As long as it changes, it works for stealth.

Without fail, everytime I connect a different Cable Modem I get a Brand New unique IP address.

This may vary with your ISP.

With Cox, that works in Phoenix, Tuscon, and Vegas. Most other Cox areas, that doesn't work.

With Comcast, RoadRunner, OOL, Brightcove, Charter, and Buckeye (among others) - the IP does not change by modem. It only changes by the MAC of the device connected to the modem. Change the device MAC, get an IP. Change the modem, still the same IP.

It does vary from area to area. About 1% of cable customers would get a new IP by changing modem. 99% will have the same IP no matter what modem they use.

You can also use the USB hook up on a cable modem for a new IP. At least in my case with Shaw I got a completely different ip range. I have a separate user account that I only use the USB hookup with [same router and modem as another user, but usb] and it hasn't failed [yet]

Easy to test with IPBurger etc.

and Vicvelcro's tips on changing mac on router are super easy and effective too.

In Canada? With a cable modem? Are you sure you aren't talking about a DSL modem? Who's your provider? I'm sure somebody could use that to their advantage.
