Default avoid paypal by offering discount?

got some expensive stuff Id like to sell, I need to offer paypal and thats fine but would prefer not to be paid by paypal on thse particular goods as its too much to lose in pp dispute

anyone successful with offering a discount on listing and saying say - 10% off it if use method other than paypal

or even stronger wording eg. if other method to paypal used, you will benefit from 4% discount, due to me not paying receiving fee

on some of my goods even a 5-10% reduction in price is worth it for customer, can represent, $80-150 for example.

When I've sold expensive stuff (over £1500) I've always put cash on collection preferred and a few have opted for this. I guess by offering an incentive like a reduction in price people will take it up.

If I am not mistaken, stating in your listing that there is a discount for circumventing is severely against ebay rules, so you risk the listing being taken down , or worse

be very careful how you word this !!!

forummember, I dont meet with the peasant masses..

not sure as I always just take pp, as all my shipments are international

if you offer a 5-10% disc, would it not be cheaper to accept pp their rate is less, But maybe you are concerned about disputes I guess??

not sure, but maybe you can provide in your description a "customer service" email or tel number "if the buyer would like more info on the product prior to buying", if i is a high ticket item, a local Uk buyer would probably want to call you /email at least - then you can bring it up there off ebay

I have never done this myself, but think this method does not officially break any rules, eb likes good "customer service" - just not their own -lol

A good way is to get the potential buyer pre-approved for bidder - must contact prior to bidding.

That way you can lay down the raw info on side e-mails off the site, offering 5-10% discount for avoiding paypal, etc.

That's what some of the $10k+ sellers do regularly.

@oompaloompa

Fair enough, I too hate meeting people from eBay. I only do that when it's authentic goods sold on a 'clean' account like artworks or jewelery.
