Check your credit score for free - Applying for bank accounts for PayPal

I recently used this free 30 day trial with Experian in the UK to get a credit check on myself, because I have never seen one and seeming as I am opening bank accounts for PayPal, I thought it would be a good idea.

Free Credit Report, Credit Rating Check & Fraud Alerts from Experian Credit Expert

I wanted to check to see what my score was and to see whether I would struggle with getting current accounts, as well as wanting to see what sort of information banks get to see when they run a credit check.

Credit report, online and free - annualcreditreport

found from this advice link

If I sign up for Experian Credit Expert, will companies I owe money suddenly know my details and contact me?

Ive not done it yet, but im tempted.

^^ Haha, something in the closet bunny?

Nah I am safe, so that is why I used it.

Credit Expert was free, you just cancel the membership before the 30 day trial is up.

The one you provided seems to require a set up fee.

I didn't know much about credit checks before I looked to be honest. I wanted to confirm more that banks can see other bank accounts you have, which they can...all the way to mobile phone contracts lol

NotAHappyBunny 05-21-2011 06:21 PM

lol - yea a really old catalogue & phone bill, oh and a water & gas bill come to think of it.

ShadyOne 05-21-2011 06:23 PM

^^ Haha, you did mention the catalogue to me....oh well, as long as you look good!

If you set up a bank account, the address you use with that bank is added to your credit report.

lol - that was my sister - well the apple doesnt fall far...

im talking about 9-10 yrs ago i think. Would you say they have gone now then?

GreenBean 05-21-2011 06:47 PM

Nope, a potenial lender can 'consider' that even if it was that long ago. Mainly they look at the past 5--7 years. Depends on the circumstances.

Now, dont be leading other users astray by using the term credit check.

There are two types, especially in the UK.
A lender does what is called a HARD credit check. They look at everything & the kitchen sink. That counts & has the potential to arise suspicion.
The other check is called 'soft'. Basically it is a 'look' to see if an applicant exists. It leaves a notation a party 'looked' at the name. Has no other effect, most of the time.
Couple of older threads to back up Shady's post :pop2:
