Yeah, when i did some research on amazon the shipping mess scared me away for sure. I have yet to figure it out but need to dig deeper and learn how it works.

I know this is said all the time but someone big needs to start another auction site that will compete with ebay by way of number of hits per day. The only thing close is probably CL. But ebay from what I hear owns 40% of it.

I can see them doing an auction site pretty easily and not have to worry about site traffic. They already have a hell of a base.

I see those other auction sites that have what they show is about a 1/4 of what ebay shows and I do a search, nothing comes up in any thing close to what I sell. Plus if you look at sellers feedback ratings, most of the last 10 sales are about a full year for the 10 sales or so. Until something changes drastically, ebay is the way.

Littlemorestealth 06-23-2011 06:48 AM

At the end of the day, when people want cheap stuff they go on eBay. If they wanted to pay money they would go to a shop.

I can't really see them being able to change that image.

rsot 06-23-2011 11:38 AM

Also you can not really get over the idea of INSTANT GRATIFICATION (ha).

Lot of people will pay full price at shops because they get their items instantly without worrying about mail. Also, they can inspected the item first hand and touch/feel - that's a huge component of Buying Theory.

Doubling your money is good. Especially if you go dump 20k on product.

Hardly going to be ideal for stealthers is it?

Google is NOT nice to deal with should the user be in the wrong.

There is a zero tolerance program with them:doh:

I am just curious as to what all people on here are getting for markups?

Myself, I currently dont list it unless I can make 5 times what I pay for it. If I spend $10 and dont sell it for atleast $50 I am pissed.

I see these people talking about $1 items and thing what a waste of time. is this normal??

again, Just curious. Not asking what you sell, just what types of profit margin people are getting. Kinda odd nosy question I guess.

I see....PM me all the products you can make 400% on. That's good enough for me!:hail:

So many n00bs...really think Google would be less of a pain in the a.s.s than eB ay? You all have lost your minds. eB ay is a f*cking ant in the eyes of Google. So please stop suggesting such a ridiculous idea.

And King, don't give up on the alternate e-commerce sites. It is a lot of work for sure, but when the sales on those other sites being to rival your sales on eB ay, that is one hell of a good feeling partner. No listing fees (most of the time), no cases being opened, no holds on cash, NO PROBLEMS...

I may actually take your advice. It cant hurt just to have some items out there to be bought. a sale is a sale...

Well, many of these other sites help with free promotions of all kinds too, inserting your items/stores into different search engines, and will even offer help for getting into Google Product Search and AdSense, etc.

You just have to find the right ones with decent site traffic. And, it doesn't necessarily matter if there isn't much history on the sales of the categories of products you sell. I have been working on alternate sites for a while, and I doubted 1 or 2 of them late last year in 2010. Well, I came back this year and now there are listings of the types of items I sell and they are selling no problem.

The time and work is really just researching the different sites that get traffic and what type of traffic that may be. Also, many are using importers now, allowing to pull whatever you have from eB ay and CraigsList right into your store without having to relist your entire inventory each time you start working on a new auction site.

These sites are begging to pull people away from eB ay, so they are literally improving and increasing their own methods every day to do so as quickly and effectively as possible.
