Default What kind of markups are out there???

The title pretty much says it all.

I am just curious as to what all people on here are getting for markups?

Myself, I currently dont list it unless I can make 5 times what I pay for it. If I spend $10 and dont sell it for atleast $50 I am pissed.

I see these people talking about $1 items and thing what a waste of time. is this normal??

again, Just curious. Not asking what you sell, just what types of profit margin people are getting. Kinda odd nosy question I guess.

I usually try and aim for £70 profit before fees on the items I list. These are quite expensive items I tend to sell though.

Thats pretty good. I have a few things that I normally pay anywhere from $10-$70 on and have made no less that $400ea. Those are fun ones. it just sucks when competitors throw listings out there selling them in bulk to just make a few bucks fast.

If they only slowed down and listed them differently they could increase their sales 5 fold atleast. some people are just dumbasses though.

I do the same thing King. I have to honestly if I want to make any kind of living and pay bills. If I can't do 300% or higher, I won't sell it. Now, outside of eB ay, I will do lower because I don't get completely raped with 12-15% fees.

I do it to support my whole family. If I dont get markups like that then I would be looking for a job. I need to clear 6k/month to keep up.

That means I have to make gross way.

There are so many places to make that kind of markup its ridiculous. Most of the time you can get markups like that just by creatively listing your items.

take a box lot of sockets or something similar for instance. you pay $400 for a butt load of them in mixed oddball sets. You buy a few more lots over the next few days or weeks and you start to get full sets that way. Then you start researching how to sell the sets in sets or individuals, or other.

The guys that sold the lots gave it away, then you will make the big money by being patient and adding to it and splitting them up where they make more sense money wise to do so.

There are so many people doing this now its not feasible for sockets but that is a good example of how I got started.

You have to be VERY creative on how you list. That is how I pretty much make my competitors look like morons. I can buy from them and double what they made on it. I have a full 40x40 garage though full of crap but when it gets full you can start getting creative.

There is more to it but that is kinda what I think is the best way to sell.

Your markups and profit margins are high! Mine is a mere 20% at most. I can sell anywhere from 4-15 items a day per account an I currently have 2 accounts working on a third.

My rule of thumb is at least 100% markup. Ebay and Amazon at least 115% markup.

I've had items that I've marked up 800%, it all depends, but I wouldn't bother if it wasn't at least 100% markup. Isn't worth the hassle for me, I do it part-time.

I run mostly auction style listings so the market decides my markup or my cost also has a lot to do with it. Inadequate buying will reduce the mark up potential.

wow, 40-70% wouldnt be worth the time spent unless you are talking about hundreds of dollars per item.

Selling $5 items for $8 would be a waste of everyones time if you ask me. How do you do it? For just some extra cash or for a living? just curious.

You dont have a hobby? I had a hobby that turned into a golden niche for me. I have made it a living now for 13yrs on ebay.

Been kicked off many times due to being lazy but learned, straightened up and been running smooth for a while now.

If you like and know about what you sell you can make a killing. Selling ipod / iphone cases is boring. seems everyone wants to sell those and make $2 in profit.. lol..(sorry guys but really...)

PM me, I have an idea for you.

I think the most I make per item is between £15-£20. The initial listing and research is the most time consuming but once the listings are up and running your making that sort of money just for going to the post office.
If I make £200 a week I'm a happy man.

I lose my markups because of horrible shipping rates conceded by ama zon at times.
