Default Halifax Easycash

Ok I recently phoned Halifax to get another Easycash account, the guy who was signing up was reading out all the legal **** and said about the fact that they do a credit check.

I stopped him and said "I thought that Easycash accounts do not require a creditcheck", he went off to speak to his manager and came back and said "Oh we have changed the rules for these type of accounts only two weeks ago, now we perform credit checks"

I'm not sure if this was BS and he just made up his answer, anyone else had this experience?

any bank account can be opened without a credit check, its current accounts that are checked!

I agree with ebayhater86.
Credit checks are made to check the credibility of the person for an overdraft/credit or any loan. The reason why it's done for current accounts is ,because they come with credit products such as overdraft etc, which even you dont opt for at the beginning but can be later arranged, depending on your needs and how you run your account.

Basic accounts are normaly subject to ONLY electoral or Electronic verification of ID.
If these checks do not come as positive, then they ask for identification documents, which I guess now they would ask you anyway.
But if you are on the electoral register, then they would only ask for Proof of ID and not the proof of address.
This is pretty much basic info, I guess most people know this anyway.

They're fussy. I needed bang up to date proof of address, photo ID and the electoral register check because the annual council tax letter was six months old, the business bank account didn't have my personal name even though the matching debit card did! Must have had some newbie.

yesterday after seeing this thread i thought i'd try and open another if they were changing rules. i have one easy cash account so decided to telephone them and open another on the phone. the rep was fine but was always trying to steer me to other accounts and products. i kept with my intention to stay with easycash and i was successful.

I phoned again and they started asking me about previous job history etc, which made me think that they were credit checking me, I asked him and he said "yes the rules have changed in the last couple of weeks", like the last guy.

I told him I wanted to cancel the application. I then went and applied online, and instead of saying I was self employed like I did on the phone(which made them ask lots of questions) I told them I was living with my parents and relying on family for money. It also said online that they credit check you.

Also I logged into my internet banking for my existing account from overseas only a short time prior to me applying for a new account with my VPS using a UK IP address.

Got a funny feeling I will be knocked back, but will see.

Yeah...that's supposed to be it.

I just called Natwest, I have a Current Account with additional First Reserve accounts; which are savings accounts with a Visa Debit card.

Was a piece of cake getting another, I have the A/C and sort code, usable tomorrow
