I would NEVER just pay the asking price for an item. I always offer a lower price. If they don't want to haggle, the pricing better be low enough to justify that. Some people will price higher with the intention of taking 50% of the asking price.

I have watched buyers get flat out rude and nasty because someone would not come down on something.
I have watched this happen on an item I got to after said person was rude and then went up and said " Wow, what a rude person, what would be your best price today?" And I ended up with the item.
I did not say I do not haggle. What I said is I wont be rude and I wont be hurting someones feelings.

I guess would depend on the items - I am not usually that bad unless it was something exclusive and insane.
I might be tempted to see how to block you from arriving in the first place =P ha

That was a good show - a pretty strict view of society in He-Man - either you were muscled, strong and smart or you were a weakling and pi$$-a$$ poor ha. And if you were fair-skinned, you tended to be good - any other colour...well...you were evil.

Speaking of shows.
I think the shows like storage wars, sw texas, pickers etc have caused the prices of everything to go up.
I like the shows and learn from them but when Mike found a pottery jug with a chip on it and said it would sell for 300.00 it told me he is totally lost.
I know my pottery and no way in hell would he ever get 300 for stoneware jug with a chip.
One of them also have a Tonka truck in the original box from the 1960s and said it would bring 400. Dont think so.
These shows are perfectly timed during a down economy and people have fallen for "your stuff is worth a million" crap.
What you say you can get and what you get for an item is two different things.

Then one day I came across some toys that I knew I could sell. The girl at the garage sale was very nice and her prices were dirt cheap.
At the time, I was broke so I still haggled with her. Trying to bundle things and get a lower price by a couple dollars.
She was giving it to me but I could tell that she didn't feel right about it.
Honestly, walking out of there I felt like an idiot. Everything was just a dollar here and 50 cents there. Why was still talking down? So stupid and honestly it was a little rude.
This was quite a while ago though and now if I see something good for cheap I just take it. Sometimes, just paying the prices is a good way to build rappor. If I wasn't being so greedy I would have stayed longer and picked out more items cause I would have felt more welcome. I probably would have taken all of them and made a killing.

What you say you can get and what you get for an item is two different things. | Do you remember the title of the American Pickers episode? If so, I can tell you if that Tonka truck was worth $400. Some Tonka trucks from the 60s can most certainly be worth more than $400!
Sometimes their prices are right on the money. For instance, their toys and figurines are usually good.
But I agree with you on the pottery (although admittedly I don't know anything about jugs). He goes crazy with those jugs that I can't imagine a collector wanting.
What price would you put on that jug w/the chip in it?
Also, those signs that are beat to hell. Who would want that? If they were in good condition sure thing! But rusted and the paint falling off? Yeah, maybe if they paid $4 for it. But these guys spend $100 on signs that look to be worth $20!
But you're right about people being deeply misinformed. Many people even put in their ads "As seen in Pawn Stars!!".
They are beyond cooky. Then there are the people that try to go out and do and find gold in storage lockers or thrift stores and try to resell it for WAYY too much. These people usually have no idea what selling on Ebay actually entails and have very limited smarts when it comes to vintage or antique items.
Maybe it will calm down after a year or so? Some of the shows are still fairly new. I'm sure after a while the news will get around that the price on it are ridiculous.
