| | | | | Sandy D | 02-26-2012 05:35 PM | Share your finds- Flea market, yard sale, thrift store, auctions, estate sales The intent of this thread is to allow us all to share with each other the knowledge we have in a certain area of expertise with our fellow members.
Since this is mainly a local thing and we wont be stepping on each others toes I fell it would be great for us to share what we find and a little about what it is and where you found it. ( not specific but in general - ex: I found this item at a yard sale )
I have learned a lot of things from members here in areas or categories I would have never even looked at.
I believe we can all benefit from sharing with each other without going into specific locations etc and help each other out. This thread is NOT for negative postings, it is for upbeat positive postings that will help each other out by giving an idea for our fellow members what to look for the next time they are out and about. It is NOT about sharing your negative experiences or your purchases that did not go so well.
Example of a posting in this thread would be:
Yesterday I found-
2 Harley Davidson childs leather jackets at a local thrift store for 9.99 each. Both were like new with no issues at all. Crazy profit!
I also found-
1950-60's picnic basket with all the original contents including a thermos brand cooler.
2 Fenton Glass Murrhina Vases Splattered colors and hard to find pieces.
I found some other things but will add them later since this is the first post in the thread.
Lets share our knowledge and help each other learn without stepping on each others toes.
Go for it! Your turn. |
| NoneOther | 02-26-2012 05:54 PM | Wouldn't go listing my inventory on here :> |
| GreenBean | 02-26-2012 05:58 PM | Did you READ the OP? :boink:
It's to have a chat not to tell a poster what they should or should not do.
If the OP is comfortable talking of finds then live with it.
As you were. :peace: |

I do not list the items I currently find right away.
With 2,350 Harley jackets listed I think it would be very hard to find that one in the batch.
Most of us know to be broad about items and not give away specific details.
Like someone in the other thread said they found Hard drives and re sell them. No way in heck could you track them down with a million hard drives listed.
If you do not want to share and cannot hide the specifics then that is ok. |
| bansheezone | 02-26-2012 06:47 PM | lol, Sandy you didnt even get to like 5 posts. :noidea:
I found this week a atv which was negotiated to $700.00, 48 hrs later after washing it and doing a full tune up it sold for 1800.00, found it at a swap meet:thumb: |

Not in any way aimed at telling the OP what they can or cannot do. |

in the spirit of the OP, listing what you find may or may not impact your ability to sell said item. if i go out and find a crystal chandelier and post about it on here, the likelyhood of someone else on here selling crystal chandeliers is extremely slim.
the fact that @sandy is even willing to share her knowledge speaks to her character.
i highly doubt that a yard sale in Missoula, MT, is going to have the same items at a yard sale in Hoboken, NJ.
again, this thread helps out guys like me who wouldnt even have a clue as to what to look for at a thrift store and are passing items by on a regular basis. the OP found some kids harley jackets near her. my guess is that I wont find the exact same harley jacket in the exact same size and condition. therefor I am not competition to her.
:focus: |
| Sandy D | 02-26-2012 07:14 PM | Exactly!!
Just to be clear so everyone protect themselves ( yes I thought of that )
we need to be vague in describing what you found.
For me I wont post anything to the exact info so someone can track me down as if like the case of the Harley Jackets I wont be listing them today and found more then 2000 like jackets on ebay.
Sean I have passed by tons of stuff such as electronics and with the other thread I now look at things like this.
In the last two days I have found tons of great items at local thrift stores and one huge flea market.
The items are there to be had.
I see nothing wrong with sharing some info to help each other out as long as we ALL understand not to post anything that would give your user name away.
Thanks Sean! |
| jamblix | 02-27-2012 08:29 AM | Yeah reading this and the other thread made me get my lazy ass up and go to the swap meet with my dad at 6 in the morning. He always goes to add to his camera collection. I always thought it would be a good idea to go and pick up some things to resell, but after today it's not as easy as it seems.
You have to know what to look for which is the hard part. I was walking around with my iphone out all day looking like a jackass for those hidden gems but just didn't know what to look for. I did end up finding something really sweet though, a Linksys WRT300N wireless router looked nearly brand new or barely used. Price was $20 got it for $15, which is a sweet deal even without the $5 discount.
I also came upon a vintage 1960s GI Joe asking price was $35, I looked on ebay and some were selling for upwards $300. Wish I knew more about vintage GI Joes and see if it would have been worth to buy...
And damn these swap meets man, the vendors here are blatantly selling a truckload of ⊗⊗⊗⊗ ****. I thought these swap meets were on watch but damn. ⊗⊗⊗⊗ DVDs, cologne, games, clothes, jerseys, hats, shoes, you name it. Makes me think about setting up shop for a day and see how things go, I can get all the stuff they have selling there easily... |
| Sandy D | 02-27-2012 08:45 AM | I use terapeak on my phone all the time when out and about. Works like a charm! |
| Sandy D | 02-27-2012 05:33 PM | Today I did not have much time but stopped by a Goodwill and found an Imperial Glass Carnival Punch Bowl set.
For those who do not know Imperial Glass it is a well sought after carnival and other glass maker from early 1900s through 1980's and the older pieces bring decent money.
Marking will be IG ( G will be over the I ) |
| clapclap | 02-28-2012 10:59 AM | I have a local auction house near me and they sell some quaility stuff. ive made a small fortune simply buying from there and selling it on ebay. i bought a guitar (i dont have a clue about them) for £9 and got £210 for it 3 days later..ive never owned or played a guitar in my life but i checked Eb as the auction was going and took a gamble..It paid off nicely  |

| Sandy D | 02-28-2012 05:26 PM | HELP TECHIES
I found a Toshiba netbook at a local thrift store for 29.99.
Very good condition.
Is loaded up some decent software but also has tons of personal stuff, pictures, documents etc. ( why would someone donate without removing in beyond me )
My question is this, how do I wipe off everything except for the software? With tons of stuff it would take me a long time to go through all of these. And netbook does not allow me to switch users easily and there are several users with saved docs etc.
Any simple way?
Thanks |
| Sandy D | 02-28-2012 07:35 PM | Sorry
Windows 7 |
netbook has no cd drive but when the comp first boots up i think pushing F10 or F12 will put a fresh copy of windows on there for you.
Nice find btw lucky LOL |
| doughboykilla | 02-28-2012 08:13 PM | U can install windows 7 off a flash drive as well. |
| biggunn | 02-28-2012 10:18 PM | Vintage binoculars. :) |

Nice find btw lucky LOL | Thanks. I just do not want to re sell it with someones personal info on it so I wanted to clean it off to keep their info private.
I have an external disk drive I can use if that helps.
Want a laugh --- It was marked as a Childs Learning Computer

Great find. Some GI Joes bring some big bucks.
Also, the original boxes mean a lot to collectors when it comes with items so if it has the original boxes add some value to your finds. |
| Sandy D | 03-02-2012 07:11 PM | Amazing day at the thrift stores and yard sales.
Box of WWII uniforms, boots, fighter googles and helmet, coat, bag etc at a yard sale.
American Flyer trains and tracks.
Box of Barbies 1960's with some newer ones that are not worth much at all.
Box of 1986 Unopened Fleer Basketball cards. I believe this is the one that had the Jordon Rookie in it. Have not checked yet but for 5.00 bucks.
No 46 Hp printer ink. I got a box full of them for a buck of piece.
Do not laugh, box of fax paper rolls. New never used never opened.
Cannot believe I am buying rolls of fax paper to re sell but hey.
2 Bicycle Car Racks for 5.00 each.
Weather radio.
Old shoe shining box and kit inside.
Appears to be 1970s home CB Radio.
Dan Marino Dolphins jersey.
Fender Strato Electric guitar. Paid 30.00 for it and dont know anything about them but took the chance on this one.
4 Ralph Lauren Polo shirts brand new with tags, 3.00 a piece.
A good day and we have 3 community yard sales tomorrow. |
| bansheezone | 03-02-2012 08:02 PM | Damn Sandy you stepped in Sh it...:FF:

Guessing you found your gem on CL. |

Dang good find! |
| yotano211 | 03-04-2012 12:20 AM | I went to the swap meet today, I found a box with 3 original copies of Hitler's book, Mein Kampf from the 1930s. I dont know the value but they seemed worth something. Only paid $5 for all 3.
Bought 2 Wii's for $50 each, everything included
Bought a box with really old Cracker Jack box toys. 47 small toys, paid $5 for entire box.
5 desktop towers and 2 small nettops laptops for the hard drives, $35 each, hard drives alone will sell for 40-50. |
| biggunn | 03-04-2012 12:45 AM | Vintage Atari $10
Vintage German Clock $10
Vintage Collectible Plates $10
All 3 of these items are worth $80 to $200. :) |
| jeffweico | 03-04-2012 01:07 AM | I bought 3 copies of a DVD called "Testament" at a flea market a couple of months ago, for $5 each. All brand new. Those puppies sell for over $100 each..
This was an "art house" movie about the aftermath of a nuclear war that came out in 1983 and was finally released on DVD in 2004. It is a relatively obscure movie with a very limited audience.
For me, those are the ones that I do well with. Harry Potter DVD's will always sell for $5 because there are millions of them - they will never be rare. But these little titles that nobody ever heard of can be worth a small fortune. |
| mercurial333 | 03-04-2012 03:04 AM | Once got a 70's for Mercedes for free from a friend, flipped it on Craigslist for 300$ once I got home with it :)
Lol. |
| biggunn | 03-04-2012 03:35 PM | Picked up a pretty nice Samaria sword for $15 today. :) A pretty nice one for so cheap. $80 at the mall... I'm not planning to flip this item at all, just a fun toy. |
| Sandy D | 03-05-2012 09:53 PM | Some great thrift store finds today!
2 1920s advertising stoneware jugs
Box of early cameras
2 McCoy Pottery Oil Jars 21"
15 Harley Davidson NWT T Shirts 2.99 each
2 Fenton Glass Vases in Satin
several smalls for feedback build up but the gem----
A Hard Rock Cafe light up sign for 49.99.
Heading out tomorrow to a huge estate auction that I know I will need to take my cargo van for as the auction starts at 3 and the place is jammed packed full. |
All this at the same thrift store? Let me know if you find anything nice at the estate sale Sandy_D - I might buy directly =) |

I hit 2-3 per day and then 2-3 the next day I can.
I have 8-10 good ones heading either direction from me and a ton of smaller ones I run it and look around real quick if I have time.
Plus I have 2 huge flea markets close to me and several smaller flea markets any direction I go.
Two thrift stores are the ones I usually find the best stuff and they are located in the poorest areas or towns so not many people with money hit them. A plus for me. Yes I carry my pepper spray and taser with me!!!
There is an advantage of living in between two large metro areas. Tons of smaller towns around me with thrift stores and many med size towns all with goodwills, sal army stores, America thrift etc. I can go any direction and run into several of them. Then I head back to my little safe neighborhood all in one piece. |

Box lots were selling for 5 bucks a piece.
Nice glassware, stoneware, collectibles. |
| Irule22 | 03-07-2012 01:00 AM | Sandy, I really doubt that box of basketball cards was a 1986-87 Fleer box, those for for $10,000++. But...ya never know, there might be that ONE person that has NO clue about those, but it would have to pass between 3-4 people before it hit wherever you bought it, I just can't see that happening. Did you research it? Verdict?
****Not "hating" just commenting since I have been buying/selling sports cards for 22 years now. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:03 PM. | |
