Default Is it safe to use this Paypal payment method?

I need 2 books quite urgently and I finally found someone who claimed that he has both of them in pdf format after a week of searching.

He just sent me instructions to send money to him. He wants me to send money to him using "Personal payment owed" option instead of "Purchase" option. He wrote if I don't follow his instructions 100%, he will refund the money. He wants the "personal payment owed" option because "he is providing a personal service to me"????

I've never sent anyone money using "Personal payment owed" option. I couldn't call ask PP because they are already closed by this time.
Does anyone know if I were to use the "Personal payment owed" option, if the seller doesn't send my books and disappears, would I be able to get a refund? The total amt is $100.

Why on earth would you do the transaction in the 1st place?

$10.00 maybe. $100 & reduced chances of refund if the deal goes poorly?

No way.

Since rsot will want to know what are the books?

Don't even think about it - there are loads of posts on the forum about 'gifts' and 'personal' with Paypal and too many finish up with limitation

Ask yourself how much your account is worth to you

Throw it back at him and tell him no. He wants your $100 for 2 PDFs a lot more than you can imagine

Sure I`d like to know - ha GB...

Seriously though, ask him a different way - it all comes down to how badly you want these PDFs vs. risk of non-delivery...the issue is that he wants you to have NO protection for his digital delivery.

You could always pay via regular credit card so you can have chargeback option available if you dont care about your account.

All the best.

if you really wanted to be a jerk you could report him for trying to complete the transaction outside of ebay.

but i wouldnt send this guy a dime unless it was a legit paypal payment. like the others said, no recourse for refund if you get screwed

No No...it's not an Eb purchase.

I do suspect that there is no protection for the digital items but I am kinda desperate for those 2 pdf books. They are actually solution manuals for accounting books. I bought 2 different levels to practise and refresh memory before school starts.
I am trying to do all the practise questions in each chapter. The books have no solutions/answers to check with. Some questions I think I'm doing it right, a lot of questions I totally have no idea wth.
I don't have anyone to help me. So I thought that the easiest is to get the manuals.

I was thinking of getting a tutor but most tutors charge at least $50/hr and generally each lesson is at least 2 hours.

Accountants don't usually take risks when their own money is at stake. Get a tutor.
