^^ I'll just buy something from my other stealth accounts...:peace:

cortex 04-06-2012 08:51 AM

Quick update: I think ebay are seriously considering going down the SSN equivalent route and yes we were right to suspect this is a trial run to lift limits.

On two established accounts i was invited to participate in a survey...the 2nd questions is:
"How willing are you to provide the following to increase your selling limit?"
1. Passport 2. Bank Information 3. National Insurance Number 4. Drivers Licence

Option #3 worries me!

meVebay 04-06-2012 08:58 AM

Wouldn't let it worry you. Even the banks don't use as a method of verification.

I called HMRC the other day to change my name on my national insurance number, they said although it's fine changing it, it doesn't make any difference as it's the number that's key, we accept all wages with the number, the name matching doesn't matter.

E/B have never scared me with their tactics and never will.

Theres a way around every obstacle they through at you- just have to think outside the box and be willing to try new things.

cortex 04-06-2012 09:48 AM

I know I know - im not actually quivering lol

I'm just updating the community so we can think ahead :-D :ranger:

I can already think of at least two ways around this now. :thumb:

The reason I say that is because most reports of pin codes being sent are on brand new accounts with no buying activity therefore the address is 'unconfirmed' for want of a better expression.

Where as accounts that have had a few purchases made and f/b left for sellers seem to avoid the letter issue.

I always buy a few bits over a period of time before selling and never had the pin code problem

How 'sound' is that hypothersis NoneOther? Is it a definite?

:ranger:

Ebayorbust 04-06-2012 10:27 AM

About as sound as pure speculation can be. ;)

To be fair it does seem a fairly plausible theory. It just needs some proving.

Ive opened 4 accounts in the last month. All with buying activity before selling and not one has had any problems raising limit or letters being sent to verify.

I can only judge on my own experiences and from what I believe to be the case with various reports from other posters, which in the main seem to indicate having no buying activity before selling. Although others have tested it with buying before hand and got it.

I always buy 'proper' items, ranging in price from £5 to £30. I always try to buy from sellers who use tracked mail and of course it goes without saying that all addresses are genuine and that I have access to them. However the person behind the address is ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and cannot be identified via public record but so far no request for ID, invoices or PIN verification either.

I honestly don't know what is triggering it other than it is a random test but what I am pretty sure of is that this will become standard procedure in the very near future.

Whether its what I'm doing or I've just been lucky so far as I said I don't know.

P.S. I've recently listed on the latest account opened about 2 weeks. I have bought about half a dozen item all around £10/12. Standard procedure to start selling, phone verification etc.

After listing 1st item, limit shows 10/£650. Listed 6 more then clicked to raise limits, sent to p/p to verify. back to e/b limit mow 100/£3500.

This is a private account not business btw

Imakemoney 04-06-2012 11:04 AM

^ Good work

Although i have different experiences, i have bought 'proper items' on some accounts & still ran into trouble lifting the limits.

Doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer currently.... :ranger:

This raises its ugly head from time to time.

From enquiries elsewhere, it's not favourably received. Alternatives to be given exist. ;)

Ive just noticed something in one of my paypals.

I had it bank verified, VCC added, all business info submitted and even had the details match the electoral register [real details/address/dob]...i have access to this address btw.
And at first my limits were all removed for sending/withdrawing/receiving.

Now i just looked and the View Limits button has arrived and i have the £1900 receiving limit. Ive already had the details verified.

Is this normal?

rsot 04-16-2012 01:29 PM

Odd - did the VCC expire? I mean expiration date.

cortex 04-16-2012 02:27 PM

^ it was an entropay...so probably not. Its only been about 2 weeks since i added it.
Would that make a difference? Im not sure how long entropay last for
